@LookoutSCruz Dr. Benbgal, I would like to share a paper re cancer with you that might prove helpful in tracing the linkages betwee pesticide use and certain cancers. How can I contact you via email. Pease text me at 208-290-8707. Chuck Benbrook
This direct challenge of CBO independence & judgement is just another sign of our system of governance breaking down. I cannot remember another so public attack on CBO going back to my first farmbill in the early 1980s. https://t.co/ndUbvcJVhP
Want to know why so many Americans are getting sicker? "Today, UPFs [ultra-processed foods] make up 73% of the US food supply...and provide...more than 60% of their daily calories." https://t.co/aZfHIprhbO
Data published by @HHRA_Ltd shows OTT dicamba use on #soybeans & #COTTON led to a tripling in dicamba detections in the urine of pregnant women in the Midwest & over a 4-fold increase in average levels. Unacceptable. Time to say goodbye to ExTend tech. https://t.co/dOhx5GZ1ek
US Ag Inc and #corn farmers are addicted to the federal dollars flowing through the #ethanol/biofuel pipelines because their economic viability is on the line. Are biofuels becoming a policy mistake too big to fail? https://t.co/DF5gl3Q958 via @undefined
Independent research shows that cell assays miss ~1/3 of the chemicals that can damage children's brains. Is that good enough? It seems the #pesticide regulators at @EPA think so. https://t.co/ISgEIM5wif
On most organic dairies, cows give birth to 5 or more calves. On high-production conventional dairies, about 1/2 of cows give birth to 1 calf & very few to three or more. All dairies can & should change to raise the # to 7 or more. THAT should be the standard all are judged by.
One of the best ways to tell whether #cows on Alexandre farms were mistreated/unhealthy is to compare to other dairies the average # of lactations when cows are shipped and no longer healthy enough to produce milk worth more than the feed the cow eats. https://t.co/xa6d7lhaif
There is good news in the @ConsumerReports story re pesticides in food. ~2/3 of #fruits and veggie samples pose little or no risk, and the data & tools needed to identify and deal with high risk residues exist. The open ? is whether we will use them. https://t.co/SEfWebPmmS
And just think about the push to expand exports of #ethanol. Use more subsidized #fossilfuel to export even more heavily subsidized ethanol halfway around the world in the name of combating climate change. No wonder it's one step forward, 2 back re #ClimateAction.
The trade rep will take some heat, but almost certainly not discuss the real reason the US ag trade deficit is is getting bigger -- high and rising farm production costs in the US relative to many other countries investing heavily in their ag sectors. https://t.co/fHSxnHu8Iu
The same requirement should be applied to more effectively test for #pesticides in imported #fruits and veggies from countries with a track record of very high-risk samples reaching US consumers. https://t.co/OmvhZr8ejj via @nbcnews
This piece lays out what #congress should do in the new #farm bill re EQIP to start promoting "climate-smart" ag. But unfortunately, it also spells out what Congress almost certainly won't do. Thanks to @IATP and @AlanGuebert 4 clarity. https://t.co/Rh8OdzDTBB via @undefined
Ironic, Bayer/MON that controls #Farmers weed management systems by deciding which #GMO traits to put in seeds is invoking "control" over farmers in their latest effort to line up ag groups to lobby for a bill pulling Bater/MON's bacon out of the fire. https://t.co/38p2k98huW
"Massive amount of data reveals win-win outcomes" when #Farmers diversify their rotations & integrate animals. The big jump in yields also ubiquitous. This is why US ag MUST diversify. No more #corn-soy forever everywhere. https://t.co/8AEj09qABM via @physorg_com
This is the kind of exception leadership @Stemilt has displayed, consistently, over decades. From tastier #fruit, improved storage, less #pesticides, and good treatment of workers, Stemilt walks the walk. Hope this model grows. https://t.co/fBVeDvKN4f
"GM varieties would account for about 40 per cent of #corn and soybean crops grown in China in the next six years". I wonder if China will make the same mistakes as the US in how #GMO seed tech is managed. https://t.co/xah2jfZeqq via @scmpnews
Paper spells out big share of CO River water devoted to growing alfalfa/corn/forages for animal feed. The next farm bill should finance shift in acres growing #animal feed from dry west to where it rains, so less CO Riv water grows nutrient dense foods. https://t.co/TPSeQPwWcr
Wonder why organic farming is advancing faster in EU than here. Easy answer. Scientists funded to do cutting-edge molecular profiling of #wheat genetic traits best suited for #oganic systems in the era of climate change. https://t.co/dr6qme9q5r #mdpiagronomy via @Agronomy_Mdpi
