Of course the primary concern of every minister when thinking of ideas for church events should be “does this spread the gospel and advance the kingdom of God?” But a really important secondary concern should be “is this legal?”

Often the brilliance of these folks only becomes apparent to me in hindsight.
Thanks for what you do, associational missionaries and those who fill similar roles (with different titles) for other denominations an as well. - end
This is a very “Baptist specific” church law thread, but I just want to praise the work and role of associational missionaries (usually called a Director of Missions). These are some of the best and godliest people I have the privilege to work with. - 1
but the associational missionary has continued ministering to the congregation and helped them get back on track. I may have had an unpleasant evening, but he’s been doing the “dirty work” of coming alongside this church and helping it repair the hurt… for years. - 6
Churches without a dissolution clause could have to pay property taxes and back-taxes going all the way back to when they took the dissolution clause out of their documents.

@Suepotts15 There is privilege. So usually the person calling the pastor to testify is waiving that privilege because they want the pastor to testify as a character witness on their behalf.
Please don't subpoena your pastor(s) without talking to them first. I'm responding to an increasing number of instances where a church member subpoenas a pastor in a legal proceeding (usually a divorce, but not always) without any advanced warning. It's not very considerate.
What is the longest set of nonprofit bylaws you've ever seen? Earlier this week, I worked with a church that used to operate under bylaws that were 1,600 pages long.
Can anyone beat 1,600?
SCOTUS sides with a high school football coach in a First Amendment case about prayer at the 50-yard-line. In a 6-3 ruling, SCOTUS says the public school district violated the coach's free speech and free exercise rights when it barred him from praying on the field after games.
@dylan_r_price@Pastakeith Thank you! I ended up responding under my personal account (Dobbs is not a religious liberty case and it was just a habit), but if I can help shed additional light on any legal matter, don't hesitate to ask!
Believe it or not, we are still waiting on 7 Supreme Court decisions this term. Several have major implications, including a religious liberty case. Tomorrow is an opinion release day and we will have decisions starting at 9am central.
