🎉 We’re proud to announce we’ve reached a remarkable 25% forest cover, following three decades of transformation!🌳
🙏 Thank you to the landowners, businesses, and local communities who have helped us to achieve this target.

The violence in Stoke-on-Trent is not reflective of the welcoming, generous and tolerant city we are.
Racism is not patriotism.
Violence is not protest.
Extremism is not welcome.
Manchester. It’s #blossomweek . Please take this lovely @nationaltrust map and explore the blossoming streets of your beautiful city. See the lovely blossom-wrapped trams and the tram stops covered in pink and blossomy poetry by the Poet Laureate. Heady stuff. Enjoy!
This may look pretty, but it is sad to see promotion of non-natives. This is not a meadow, it is a patch of ornamental, exotic blooms. If you want to encourage wildlife, plant native plants - which provide nectar and also food for herbivorous insects.
If we take good care of the ground beneath our feet, it will improve our capacity to withstand extreme climate events such as droughts, floods and soil erosion. The future of food, farming and our wellbeing depends on it.
Here's how we can support our soils... 1/6 #WorldSoilDay
#30DayMapChallenge Day 17: Flow.
Signal crayfish were brought here from North America in the 1970s to be farmed for food but soon escaped and spread throughout Staffordshire's rivers. While Himalayan balsam was introduced in 1839 for horticultural purposes.

🧵1/5 Today a workmate shared quotes from the last 128 years of the National Trust - its history and people. They made me laugh/cry. Here are my top 5. Thank you to everyone who voted in our AGM, and who supports the National Trust. It's always been powered by people & passion.
If you're having a bonfire this weekend, remember to thoroughly check for wildlife before lighting up.
Unlit bonfires can be the perfect place for hedgehogs, toads, insects and much more who are looking for a cosy spot to sleep.

The National Trust Christmas ad is out. There’s nothing in it for anyone hoping for an anti-woke backlash, but if you’re annoyed by bumble bees in hats, please don’t watch. https://t.co/zsQBavDfFJ
This slide goes at the start of all my presentations. I love it. There are 6 more hours for members to vote in the AGM of this fabulous institution, which was left to our nations by some determined and really quite disruptive Victorians.

Please don't dump Halloween pumpkins in the countryside, or leave them to rot in your garden. Eating pumpkins can make hedgehogs, birds & other animals ill – so dispose of pumpkins in a compost bin or council food waste bin, or bury under 20cm soil.

Appalling scenes coming in today from River Wye catchment 😥
Topsoil from fields left bare to autumn/winter storms - laden with nutrients from dumped manure by valley’s massive intensive 🐓 industry - just freely running off into the river system.
How to destroy an ecosystem 😖
We have had reports of some people foraging/scrumping on our reserves to sell commercially. Please refrain from doing this, you are starving our wild friends of the food to survive and making money from a charity without permission.
Please share if you feel this isn't right?
A few media outlets are picking up this story & making it prominent, but many are not. This is massive, especially considering discussions going for decades about the risk of an abrupt climatic shift. Might @JimSkeaIPCC have a comment?
If you know anything about the early history of the @nationaltrust, it was dominated by Octavia Hill, Beatrix Potter and a number of other fiesty campaigners.
So criticising this wonderful organisation for "campaigning" seems a bit wrongheaded to me...
