Almost seven years ago, I walked away from the Republican Party...and I haven’t looked back. The decision was sharp, clean, and yes, costly in some ways. But never hard.

But I have received death threats... from the people I once called my own.

I’m still the same guy. Still living by the oath I took nearly 35 years ago when I raised my right hand. But staying in the Republican Party made that oath impossible to honor.

Leaving wasn’t a betrayal. Staying would’ve been.
