It’s almost as if we think that variation in exam grades caused by a virus is somehow more false than variation caused by poverty, geography, the bad luck of having your teacher suddenly go off sick, or being in a class that behaves poorly the entire time.
@MrHonner@dandersod@shskaercher Have 40 mins after school when we would typically help students. Have set aside one day for us to plan. So one 40 min period per week. They have this broad plan but I don’t think they realize what it really entails and workload on teachers
@MrHonner@dandersod@shskaercher We also have 2 groups. They alternate between in person and at home. Original expectation was all synchronous for students at home. Backed off some and said can do asynchronous if we want but some virtual check in is required. Also have full remote option
With inspiration from @anniek_p@shskaercher@dandersod , my students "spring break" assignment was to create math art. Gave them some links and left it open ended. Here are some samples from day 1. Excited to open my inbox each morning now.
@dandersod@bowmanimal PS. Pushed hard with teachers and students for programming next year. Had 38 sign up. School only wants 1 section but still great
@dandersod Gave them link to Annie’s blog and Desmos art. Also told them to search Twitter for #mathartchallenge or just Google math art. Find something and replicate.
