Catherine Connolly takes office as Ireland’s president today.
Her left-wing insurgent campaign took the Irish political establishment by surprise, winning a record number of votes and proving the Left can still triumph even in a bleak political landscape.https://t.co/xwYDukb9uS
Pro-Putin, anti-choice protesters on the streets of Dublin today, pretending to be 'Irish patriots'.
Fortunately they were met by a large crowd of anti-imperialist, anti-racist people who remember the words of Connolly:
"Let no Irishman throw a stone at the foreigner."

"McGuirk also stated "If Dublin Central is 75% yes on the day (3-1), I will never take a political job again".[22] 76.5% of votes cast in Dublin Central supported 'Yes'"
Apparently Deputies Coppinger and Murphy are now into minute 27 of a press conference denouncing Gript Media. I do hope other Media outlets know that this is a preview of life under PbP: Toe the line or be denounced as wrongthinkers.
We'll wear it as a badge of honour.
New article on our site: Robin Koenig and @cianplk survey the 2025 People Before Profit AGM, which took place in Dublin earlier this month. https://t.co/m6WPXmlywB
Today a public inquiry into the proposal to mine for gold in the Sperrin mountains begins.
Local campaigners have highlighted dangerous climate and health impacts of mining, and faced massive intimidatiom for speaking out.

Join @_WCCA for next week's panel discussion as our speakers discuss the rise of the far right & what we can do to stop it.

I dunno, I think it's good there's debate. Considered, developed, in writing & open for all to see.
But I wish it was based on a genuine search for clarity. Marxism is meant to be a science, not a point scoring exercise.
Still, hopefully sparks replies, insights & discussion.
Nice to see some developed written debate on the left on this, glad @RuptureMag_ could help kindle this!
However, socialist debates should be honest and comradely, understanding the others point and responding to it - not shifting the goal posts to try save face.
So now they aren't critiquing the actual existing pamphlet that sparked this whole thing, but a vaguer notion of what they they think some statements in the press "let on"?
Selective quoting, paraphrasing 'the purpose' of an article is rather than quoting the article etc?
Finally, let's be clear. This isn't some case of 'SFs hands are tied by Ard Fheis'.
The SF leadership aren't ruling out a deal with FF, because they want a deal with FF.
Their not 'pretending' to go to the right - they are going to the right.
The left needs to fight back.
Glad to see my article sparking a bit of debate, hopefully more tune in to this too!
I don't that it is "probably too late in this election cycle to build a movement that will gain enough seats to be in contention for government without either Fianna Fáil or Fine Gael."
Last week we published an opinion piece on ‘The Case for Left Unity in the coming General Election’, and encouraged others to respond with their thoughts.
Today we publish a response from a former Sinn Féin councillor Séighin Ó Ceallaigh.

Most importantly, such an Ard Fheis could end the drift to the right by SF, which has been disastrous.
People are angry, many aren't voting cause they don't trusy anyone. We need a bold, anti-establishment left to mobilise that anger, and present a radical socialist alternative.
