The wrongful conviction of Osgur Breatnach for the Sallins train robbery half a century ago has now been declared a miscarriage of justice.

Mr Breatnach was found guilty by the non-jury Special Criminal Court in 1978.

We are very pleased with today's result for our client, Ms.Anita Little.

Approval has been obtained from two Government departments for a successful mediation process of an employment dispute between Children’s Health Ireland (#CHI) and a former business manager, the High Court heard. - Tim Healy

It followed repeated complaints about the delay in approving the mediation deal between CHI and Anita Little over her purported dismissal in August 2025.

She claimed she was dismissed as business manager as a result of an instruction by her superiors to delist 10 patients from the CHI spinal surgery waiting list.  She said her dismissal followed a flawed investigation.

On Thursday, the court was told the approval of the two departments had been obtained, that Ms Little has now resigned as part of the deal in which Mr Kean said she had received a very substantial sum as part of the settlement.

Her barrister, Richard Kean SC, instructed by Caoimhe Haughey solicitor, made a number of complaints to Mr Justice Brian Cregan about the delay from the government departments in approving the settlement.

@euronews @EUCssrMcGrath It must be acknowledged that the EU has high standards. However, Ireland is currently failing to come anywhere near EU standards when it comes to protecting whistleblowers. Perhaps the Commissioner should examine Ireland’s enforcement of EU standards.

If an employee later discovers through FOI records that management discussed moving to a formal disciplinary process before a complaint or investigation had even been started — and only uncovers this after a final written warning had already been imposed — does that raise concerns about natural justice, procedural fairness, and psychological welfare at work?
Particularly where the employee had also been raising workplace concerns.
