Western "pro-DPRK" leftists aren't that different from the anti-DPRK crowd. Both know most people can't verify claims about North Korea, and both exploit that fact.

Anti-DPRK types invent horror stories to feel better about their own societies, while "pro-DPRK" redlibs invent fantasies to cope with being losers at home, imagining they'd have better luck if they were born in the DPRK (imagine thinking life under sanctions would be easier than life in the west).

Neither side engages with the DPRK as it actually exists, but as an abstraction onto which they can project their stupid ideas while pretending they're in solidarity with the Korean people (both "pro-" and anti-DPRK westerners believe they're standing with the Korean people).

Both are, at the end of the day, white saviors. One wants to "save" Koreans from "despotism," while the other wants to "defend" Koreans as symbolic socialist mascots while pretending their society upholds baizuo social values.

Another thing they simply don't get is Koreans, and East Asians in general, do NOT want to be pitied. Pity is an insult to dignity, because it is something the strong give the weak, which is why you'll find that even in times of hardship, East Asian peoples in general want to be spoken to as equals, and not pets for foreign moral theater.

The funny thing is, most of these losers online are people who've never spoken to north Koreans or been to the DPRK arguing with other losers who've never spoken to north Koreans or been to the DPRK.

If I were to describe the spirit of each East Asian pop music in one word:

C-pop: Sentimental. Tends to be ballads, usually about break-ups and heartbreaks.

K-pop: Slick. Smooth and superficially impressive but shallow (which is literally the definition of "slick"). Polished to the gills but lacks soul.

J-pop: Uplifting. Subject matter is usually wholesome, focuses friendship, hope, and overcoming adversity.
