@rob_heighton I think the voice in many American children's classics is also (honestly) more accessible. Little Women has a huge amount of dialogue and is v. immediate, whereas The Hobbit focuses on scene setting in a way that might be difficult if you are struggling.

@rob_heighton I think if you are not neurodivergent or don't read outside school 300 pages probably seems like a lot. I read the Hobbit in junior school and in class we would read Bangers and Mash books which were about 35ish pages.

As for painting I will wait & try to get the new mirror finish paint that can be applied by brush to do classic style candy coat if poss, because I think airbrush on this scale will just annoy me, but I want that look
