🪲 A bug in the latest LuxOS firmware release makes it incompatible with @PivotalPlebTech Loki Kit.
🔧LuxOS is working on a fix.
🛑If you own a Bitchimney, Urlacher or other Loki Rigs that run LuxOS, DO NOT update your firmware.

Happy New Year!
I've seen the following behavior on two G1 Mini's for some time:
- Fans always run at full speed, 5400 RPM
- On the web interface, fan settings under Miners > Normal Configuration have no effect, i.e. min/max/default/preboot. They just don't work
- The "Temp1-#" values returned by the cgminer API are invalid, and the "Select Temperature show on home page" setting has no impact on what temp is shown on the Dashboard screen.
A quick google search shows that other people have this problem as well, and that the noise generated by the 4 fans in the unit at full speed is a problem for home miners. Some people are replacing or disabling fans to resolve this issue.
I did some digging. There is a defect in the cgminer init.d script which I believe exists in both 2.52 and 2.54 "G Series" firmware versions. There are 4 command line switches passed to cgminer by the existing init.d script that are supposed to control fan speed:
--fan-ctrl
--pwm-default
--fan-limit
--EN-clean-dust
But they don't work on the mini. The cgminer binary you ship takes the following switch:
--mini-fan
I was able to successfully reduce speed and gain control over the fans by modifying the cgminer init.d script:
- removed all of the preboot/clean-dust checks
- modified the command line generation so that the 4 original fan related switches are replaced just with --mini-fan, passing in $_pwm_default, which can be modified by the user under Miners > Normal Configuration > Default Fan%. The other fan settings on this page are ignored in this fix, and --mini-fan takes a number from 30-100.
I ran overnight at 1.26G/3250 RPM/~80C and all stable. In any case, this seems like a long-standing issue on the G1 Mini with a really simple fix.

@Smidnico@coinmetrics As BTC increases in price, older miners go up in value and come back online. There is a point at which BTC becomes so valuable that there is no difference between 100 J/TH and 20 J/TH. Don’t throw away your S9’s just yet.
@DCentralTech The S9 retrofit board is a sweet idea… with 6 of the old dogs around here I’ve actually pondered that concept. Target a total W consumption that makes sense in the context of 120V/20A circuits… design choices needed but it’s hundreds of W per chassis IMHO. Keep going!

@skot9000 It’s an important milestone!
There are too few companies manufacturing BTC miners. They are all out of China. All of the current generation are built for 200-240V power. There is a really underserved market for 120V hashrate.
Hopefully the open source community here keeps growing
@skot9000@johnny9dev@Public_Pool_BTC This is really cool. There is going to be an explosion of interest in home/120v BTC mining over the next few years, and this project is clearly fundamental. I’ve got the JaBIT version coming. Thanks to the team behind this!
@LuxorTechTeam@hashrateindex The redesign is excellent. Love your take on derivatives and the rig index is so great. Excellent Friday chat. What’s in store with the energy section Coming Soon?
@guzmanpintos@LuxorTechTeam@hashrateindex This is really great and unique info, and such a great presentation. What a great chat tonight - thanks guys - awesome operation!
