Don’t think I’m being hyperbolic when I say this one is going to be in contention as one of the worst coaching hires of all time.

This is a program that has been investing in football for well over a decade. Its athletics and NIL budget is in line with what most of its CUSA competition has to work with. This isn’t some resource-starved underdog trying to punch above its weight, nor is it a program that made the jump to FBS before it was ready.

He was handed a team that went 11-3 and, when their previous coach went to Temple, he took exactly one player with him. Most of the players returned to SHSU. And they went 2-10, one of those being against an Oregon State team that did not have a coach. There’s no obvious reason this team shouldn’t be capable of winning.
