PH INFLATION JUMPS TO 4.1% ON FUEL SHOCK
Inflation in the Philippines surged to 4.1 percent in March 2026 from 2.4 percent in February, breaching the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas’ 2–4 percent target and marking the fastest pace since July 2024.
The spike, driven largely by soaring fuel and food costs, followed global oil price shocks linked to escalating conflict in the Middle East, which disrupted supply routes and pushed crude prices above $100 per barrel.
Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) showed transport inflation jumping to 9.9 percent—accounting for more than half of the increase—as gasoline and diesel prices rose sharply.
