🎉 It's finally happening! The smoke is set to (mostly) leave Colorado Wednesday evening as cleaner air sweeps in from the southwest. Fully clears out Thursday. Also, it's going to rain. This & more in today's *Premium* discussion: https://t.co/S8JF4lTouE #COwx#Smoke#Colorado
Fire alert: Golden Gate Canyon area in 4200 block of Bear Rd. Currently doing door to door evacuations. If you feel you need to leave the area, please evacuate. There’s one structural damage at this time. PIO in route.
That is not the #hogbackfire. That is a wildfire in Golden Gate Fire’s district. It’s burning in Golden Gate Canyon near Bear Road, northwest of Golden. Several fire districts are sending resources to assist.
A quick response & aggressive firefighting on the #hogbackfire kept the fire to approx. 40 acres & lifted pre-evacuation notices. West Metro had help from 22 fire, law enforcement, and other agencies. Thank you.
If you see small flare ups like this one on the #hogbackfire overnight- this is normal fire behavior. It’s occurring well within the fire perimeter. This tree smoldered for several hours before igniting. Crews are patrolling the perimeter all night, keeping an eye on the fire.
Final #Hogbackfire update from us for the night (visit @WestMetroFire for further updates): 1. All pre-evacs have been lifted 2. hiking trails on the hogback & Mathews-Winter Park will be closed on Sat 3. Thanks @jeffcom911co for managing calls and sending resources to the fire!
Here's a look at the conditions facing crews battling the #HogbackFire in Jefferson County right now, which is 10 acres and growing due to winds, according to @robharristv.
Investigator starting work at the #HogbackFire
Very little smoke left. Expect pre-evacs to be pulled down soon.
There is a downed line by these poles, but that does not make it the fire’s cause. Still to be determined. I’ll report latest at 10 on @CBSNewsColorado
