#TENP#20THGRADUATION
As the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Technical, Vocational Education and Training, I was ably represented by Director Meshack Opwora during the 20th Graduation Ceremony of the Eldoret National Polytechnic in Uasin Gishu County.
Through my representative the state department joined the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Migos Ogamba and other distinguished leaders in celebrating the 3,619 graduates who have successfully completed their training across various disciplines.
I commend the Eldoret National Polytechnic for its unwavering contribution to the growth and transformation of our revamped TVET sub-sector. The ongoing reforms particularly the Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) and Dual Training are yielding strong results by equipping our learners with industry-aligned and future-ready skills.
The government further appreciate the invaluable support from county leadership and national policymakers, including H.E. Evans Kipruto Kapkea, Deputy Governor of Uasin Gishu County, and CPA Julius Rutto, MP for Kesses. Their commitment to strengthening TVET continues to play a key role in driving Kenyaโs socio-economic development.
The Digital Superhighway, a key pillar of H.E President @WilliamsRuto's Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), continues to open doors of opportunity for young people across the country.
A perfect example is the Eldoret National Polytechnic Konza Digital Skills Laboratory, officially opened in 2023, which is empowering youth with practical digital skills and connecting them to jobs in the global digital economy.
The state-of-the-art lab is equipped with 100 computers and has so far churned out 17 cohorts, each averaging 95 students.
With a student population of over 17,000, the Polytechnic has become a hub where young people access training in basic, intermediate and advanced digital skills.
The courses range from transcription, web design, graphics and programming to data analytics, ensuring learners are well-prepared for diverse opportunities.
Graduates from the programme have quickly translated their training into income. In just three months, some youths have earned up to $4,000 by tapping into digital work opportunities.
The Lab's strong partnerships with international companies, coupled with online training and globally recognized certifications, have given the trainees a competitive edge, with many being absorbed rapidly into the job market.
This initiative equips young people with relevant skills that drive job creation, community empowerment and economic transformation, proving that the digital economy is a powerful frontier for Kenya's growth.
