मध्य प्रदेश के रीवा में UGC रेगुलेशन 2026 के विरोध में आवाज उठाने वाले आउटसोर्स कर्मचारी दिलीप शर्मा की नौकरी जाने का मामला बेहद गंभीर सवाल खड़ा करता है।

क्या अब अपने अधिकारों की आवाज उठाने के लिए भी नौकरी गंवानी पड़ेगी?

जिस संविधान ने हर नागरिक को शांतिपूर्ण विरोध का अधिकार दिया, क्या उसके रहते किसी कर्मचारी को अपनी बात रखने की कीमत रोज़गार खोकर चुकानी चाहिए?
UGC रेगुलेशन से भविष्य प्रभावित होने की आशंका है, तो उसके खिलाफ आवाज उठाना लोकतंत्र में अपराध कैसे हो सकता है?

Denmark’s 2018 ban on full-face veils, popularly known as the “burqa ban,” has resurfaced as a flashpoint after the government moved to extend the law into schools and universities, with a new bill expected before parliament in early 2026.

The original law, passed by Danish lawmakers in a 75-30 vote on May 31, 2018, prohibits garments that cover the face in public places, including the niqab and burqa, and took effect that August 1. First-time offenders face a fine of 1,000 kroner, roughly $156, rising to 10,000 kroner for a fourth violation. The government has maintained the law targets no specific religion and does not restrict headscarves, turbans or the Jewish skullcap. Then-Justice Minister Soren Pape Poulsen said police would not forcibly remove veils but would fine offenders and tell them to leave.

The push to widen the law into classrooms was announced by Migration and Integration Minister Rasmus Stoklund, who said burqas, niqabs or any other face-covering clothing have no place inside Danish classrooms, and that the existing public ban should extend to schools as well. Hans Andersen, a lawmaker with the governing coalition’s liberal party, said it runs contrary to Danish values for girls and women to be fully covered in classrooms where teachers cannot see their students’ faces. Stoklund has framed the measure as a message to girls and women from migrant backgrounds, intended to support them in resisting honour-based cultures and rigid social norms.

Opponents, including human rights groups, argue the expansion discriminates against a religious minority and infringes on religious freedom and women’s right to choose their own clothing. Amnesty International’s Europe director said after the original 2018 vote that the law criminalizes women for their choice of clothing. Denmark’s approach mirrors earlier restrictions in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Bulgaria and parts of Switzerland, and the schools bill remains under consideration as the debate continues.
