I give THE POWER OF THE DOG four stars. And the party for THE POWER OF THE DOG five stars. Mostly for the sushi and catching up with Benedict Cumberbatch. Somehow we ended up spending most of our time deciding who loves Claire Foy more.
THE ELECTRICAL LIFE OF LOUIS WAIN (dir. Will Sharpe) #TIFF21
Benedict Cumberbatch & Claire Foy dial the quirkiness all the way up to ten, and it’s all the better for it. Their chemistry makes for a brilliant period piece brimming with a peculiar, perfectly timed sense of humor.
Claire Foy is terrific and her chemistry with Cumberbatch, ahem... powers most of the movie. Andrea Riseborough is great as usual but like in every movie she's in it takes me more than a second to realize it's her. She's a damn chameleon. #TIFF21 https://t.co/NfAigrFk2v
#TIFF21 movie 15: THE ELECTRICAL LIFE OF LOUIS WAIN doesn't let its eccentric and colorful surface get in the way of exploring deeper emotions — like Wes Anderson if he let substance trump style once in a while. Cumberbatch plays neurotic geniuses so well. A lovely weird biopic.
#TheElectricalLifeofLouisWain is truly phenomenal. The music, the cinematography, the make up and the production design are just amazing. All of that is amplified even more with a powerful and captivating performance by Benedict Cumberbatch and Claire Foy. Wow.
THE ELECTRICAL LIFE OF LOUIS WAIN. I wasn't ready for how much I loved this refreshing adventure. Cumberbatch in one of his best roles and a director that is inspired by his love for the subject and for film make for one of the standouts of the fest so far. #TIFF21
THE ELECTRICAL LIFE OF LOUIS WAIN
Dir. Will Sharpe
As frantic and whimsical as the cat artist himself. Cumberbatch predictably nails his performance, Foy not far behind. It is directed with picturesque detail for a lovely story of the transformative nature of art. #TIFF21
Director Will Sharpe’s The Electrical Life of Louis Wain is the most disarming and pleasant period piece I’ve seen in a while that slowly sinks you into its surrealism like a warm bath. Plus it’s about the guy who gave us all this amazing cat art. 😸 #TIFF21
‘The Electrical Life of Louis Wain’ Director Will Sharpe and Star Benedict Cumberbatch On Telling The Tale Of A “Quiet Hero” – TIFF Studio https://t.co/vIVpeuyTnO
THE ELECTRICAL LIFE OF LOUIS WAIN: Bit of a basic biopic overall, and takes a while to get going, but Sharpe’s striking style elevates the story considerably. And who couldn’t love all those adorable cats? Cumberbatch is convincingly quirky, though Foy steals the show. #TIFF21
THE ELECTRICAL LIFE OF LOUIS WAIN is a genuinely eccentric film about genuine eccentrics & I kinda adored it? Its sad sweetness landed more than not. That makes a surprise two-fer with me & Cumberbatch at #TIFF21 this year with me even more head over for THE POWER OF THE DOG
I rather adored THE ELECTRICAL LIFE OF LOUIS WAIN, which uses its irrepressible quirks to tell the story of an artist both uplifted and undone by the electrical currents of his life. Will Sharpe has a real winner on his hands. For @awards_watch: #TIFF21 https://t.co/0huql9biXa
THE ELECTRICAL LIFE OF LOUIS WAIN a character study on how a person canalizes love & loss through art. Amazing Cinematography that looks straight out of a painting. Mystical & lovable score. Benedict Cumberbatch's performance is stunning!
#TIFF21
The Electrical Life of Louis Wain is now clipping at the heels of Jockey for the distinction of #TIFF21 Top Pick on my list. #BenedictCumberbatch plays Louis a strange artist who transformed the way that the British viewed cats.
It took me two scenes to realize that he’s ….
Snuck this one in out of curiosity at the end of the day and you know what, I think I feel the same! Sneakily profound, beautifully realized, a real gem!
