if you can call from memory an excerpt of that great bard Shakespeare’s incredibly far-reaching corpus that contemplates your very situation, it is considerable consolation what’er betide you.
Thinking about his meditation on having to shit during a shower helped me today
“When you dig into academic footnotes you realize the crest of sublimity in your tongue & time is abominated as insane by the famously etiolated scientific standards of sense & cogency that’ve bled out God’s world like an oversanguine king; & this indicts the poem not the age”
yes falling beneath the admittedly violent wavepeaks of Cantos (like those OP offers upthread as exercise for the reader’s vim), forced thereunder in cocklecaves, sluggish coils of tepid blood, to cobble sense by sunless reason w/ yr lungsful of brine… would be uh under whelming
@absenceshell Eh, when you dig into the footnotes, most of The Cantos is just a really intelligent guy's disconnected ramblings. You have to be selective. He never topped "The River Merchant's Wife: A Letter."
@brimstonecanary@No5mallf3at Properly “slop” is that which an entirely automatic mode of production generated, one of infinitely many fungible species of some particular genus. Language itself is one such automatic mode as is “literature” when cliche and manner eg are shaping works like proto-LLMs
Embarrassing to believe how art was originally distributed or which of the lowly were allowed engage with it has any bearing whatsoever on its value qua art
What people aren’t ready to hear is Dostoyevsky is litslop too. Brothers Karamazov, like Count of Monte Cristo, was published in serials for people to read like we watch tv shows weekly now.
@FredWick7@HirambeMuse@KaloneMarl They lost in the last quarter of a seventh game to a team that went 7 in the finals and again they did this while replacing Michael Jordan with literally nothing, because Scottie Pippen has an MVP level season
@FredWick7@HirambeMuse@KaloneMarl Yeah 1994 league mvp finalist toni kukoc is why a team that lost Michael Jordan in the offseason only lost 2 more games and got a 3 seed and a quarter away from making the finals you’re right
@HirambeMuse@KaloneMarl@FredWick7 Finished 3rd in mvp voting that season, and lost in seven games (due to famously bad officiating in the final quarter) to a team that lost in the finals in seven games
@Keibettt@KaloneMarl@FredWick7 Robbed by the refs late in game 7 and would’ve certainly been in the finals had they not been. Point isn’t that Pippen isn’t better than Jordan it’s that he was 3rd in mvp voting that year and is insanely underrated. Jordan without Pippen in ‘94 wouldn’t win a title either
@ladsgeog@Christian999333@villeburghcity@KaloneMarl The bulls were the 3 seed and won 55 games without MJ and with Pippen leading the team in 1994. 24-11 is a 55 win pace. They’re a 55 win squad with either of those guys missing
@No5mallf3at I’m sure many thousands of people have lined their canary cages with leaves of the King James Bible do you think that’s like a feature of the work you need to remind people about when it’s mentioned?
@No5mallf3at Are you just making a point you find to be of historical or sociological interest and using a deeply tendentious polemical expression out of the context it’s otherwise always used in on here? Because if so like, why?
