The water shortages the UK is facing should genuinely be a national scandal. It is simply insane that we haven't built a reservoir since the 1990s.

If you want to know who's responsible, look no further than the NIMBY local politicians who block any and all development projects. Self-interested MPs, who care only about their parliamentary majorities, must also shoulder the responsibility. All have shirked the decisions necessary for Britain's growth in favour of their local political standing.

The only way to fix Britain's water is radical reform of our planning laws. This will also unlock the housing crisis, boost jobs and economic growth, and pave the way for reindustrialisation.

But doing so requires taking on the local NIMBYs who will block anything resembling progress. I'm not optimistic...
