@RutgersAltRoute A5: #TeacherEd#SafeSchools Teachers should reaffirm student safety and actively support students to build trust. When there is a conflict, give options to address concerns/regulate. Be an advocate for students and encourage them not be advocates for each other.
@RutgersAltRoute A4: #TeacherEd#SafeSchools some challenges are supporting students who need help but are resistant to support and recalibrating the class environment after a moment of HIB occurs. Students observe how you address others to know how safe the environment is.
@RutgersAltRoute A3: #TeacherEd#SafeSchools I’ve seen admin directly address concerns during morning meetings, sent home info about HIB, and involve parent through meetings. Sometimes the guidance counselor will come to class to provide presentations/activities to students.
@RutgersAltRoute A2: #TeacherEd#SafeSchools I utilize class dojo, email, and phone to share/receive updates. Also, using those platforms to meet in person is also helpful. Also, I have a mentor to provide support on best practices.
@RutgersAltRoute A1: I create a safe environment by establishing my expectations and allowing students to help create class rules so they can have a direct say in how to make the class safe and know they have a responsibility to uphold it. #TeacherEd#SafeSchools
@RutgersAltRoute A5: I sandwich specific, written feedback to students. I acknowledge one part that was done well and one part that can be improved for the next assignment. I also allow peer feedback. It helps to build community within the class.

@RutgersAltRoute Q4: A challenge I faced was providing students with options for submitting assessments to demonstrate knowledge. I know the way that they are being evaluated is through traditional assessments and some students have anxiety around traditional testing. #TeacherEd#GrowthMindset
@RutgersAltRoute A3: I encourage questions and thank students for having the courage to ask. To fine-tune my practice, I will better communicate the expectations for how making mistakes is an opportunity to grow, and they shouldn’t shy away from improvement. #TeacherEd#GrowthMindset
@RutgersAltRoute A2: #TeacherEd#GrowthMindset Teachers can promote growth by providing more written feedback to assignments without a grade and verbally reinforcing the high expectations they set. I expect students to rise to the occasion and eventually expect more from themselves.
@RutgersAltRoute A1: Mindset presents the opportunity for teachers to better help students. It can be challenging when students limit themselves, but the teacher can be intentionally and create opportunities for student growth. It’s shown with the pygmalion effect. #TeacherEd#GrowthMindset
@RutgersAltRoute Q5: Teachers should be in communication with other teachers to improve their practices. Also, admin should offer more practical resources for at home learning for students with learning disabilities. Some students are good in class, but struggle at home. #TeacherEd#SpEd
@RutgersAltRoute A4: I empower my students by giving them strategies to keep track of topics they have difficulty with (ie) marking w a star/circle/symbol). When we have daily/weekly check-ins they know what they do well and what they need to work on. #TeacherEd#SpEd
@DianaKuyum92650@RutgersAltRoute I have an #ESL room too, and sentence frames somewhat help. I also allow my students to work in groups of 2 for activities at times, use text-to-speech, or their translator #TeacherEd
@RutgersAltRoute In math, all students start standing to answer a math problem, and then sit as they get them correct. I set it up as a game. Everyone participates, is engaged, and has fun. It’s on material that’s been practiced. #TeacherEd#SpEd#mathchat
@RutgersAltRoute A2: An accommodation that I actively implement is having audio books accessible and providing extended time. I would like to implement is flexible seating and see how that affects students learning during different subjects. #TeacherEd#SpEd
@RutgersAltRoute A1:To create an inclusive environment, I took the opportunity to talk directly with my students to discover how to best help them. When students have more autonomy in their learning, they are more likely to be engaged compared to others deciding for them. #TeacherEd#SpEd
