La Comisión Nacional Forestal (Conafor) reveló que el 73% de la deforestación permanente en México es consecuencia directa de la conversión de terrenos forestales en pastizales para la ganadería, con una pérdida promedio anual de más de 203 mil hectáreas entre 2001 y 2024.

Los datos oficiales subrayan que el 95% de esta pérdida se realiza de forma ilegal, pues la Semarnat solo autoriza el cambio de uso de suelo en una fracción mínima de la superficie afectada, impactando principalmente a las selvas cálido-húmedas y secas del país.
