Hey changemakers, we are the Global Alliance for NTDs Eradication, a youth driven force on a mission to end Neglected Tropical Diseases and ensure health equity for all 🙌

#GANE joined fellow stakeholders in the #NTDAdvocacy, Communication & Social Mobilization (ACSM) Technical Working Group Meeting, convened under the theme: "Strengthening Inclusive Advocacy, Communication and Social Mobilization for NTD Elimination in Kenya."
This #FathersDay, #GANE celebrates the father's and father figure's who lead by example, as they champion good health, promote safe hygiene practices, and support environments where children and communities can thrive.
Happy Father's Day 💙

By 2050, nearly 2 in 5 children globally will be African and on #DayoftheAfricanChild—children remain among the most disproportionately affected by #NTDs.
This day is a reminder that advocacy must be matched with urgency & sustained action.

#NTDs such as #Schistosomiasis, can hinder growth, contribute to malnutrition, & impair cognitive development, affecting a child’s ability to learn and thrive.
At Siambe Primary School in Keiyo Ward, Trans Nzoia County, efforts are underway to change this narrative.

In a community in Western Kenya, Mama Leah has lived with the burden of #jigger infestation that has affected her health & mobility.
One challenge was access to sanitation—without her own latrine, she relied on neighbours, a difficult routine worsened by her physical condition.
Nothing About Youth, Without Youth

Together with Regional Health Bureaus & the @FMoHealth, NALA conducted Community & School SBCC Training of Trainers under the IoT Project in Southern Ethiopia.
The training focused on behavior change towards hygiene and sanitation, safe water practices, and community leadership
On #WorldEnvironmentDay, #GANE reaffirms that environmental health is human health. Environmental degradation, unsafe water, & poor sanitation continue to drive #NTDs, disproportionately affecting vulnerable communities.
We call for stronger #WASH & #climate action 🌍
#Schistosomiasis remains a persistent #NTD affecting vulnerable communities across Kenya. Yet in Trans Nzoia County, local partnerships are demonstrating that elimination is possible.
Asega Dam in Keiyo Ward was once identified by @KEMRI_Kenya a major hotspot in the ward.

Stopping schistosomiasis means stopping transmission, not just treating infection.
In #Ethiopia’s IoT districts, communities map high-risk water sites, generate field data, and drive targeted action including locally led solutions like #Endod, #prevention is becoming a system.
Today, we join all Kenyans in celebrating #MadarakaDay, a moment to reflect on our nation's journey, achievements, and shared responsibility in shaping a healthier and more equitable future.
Happy Madaraka Day Kenya 🇰🇪

Significant shifts proposed in Finance Bill 2026.
We all need to pay very close attention to clause 29 of Finance Bill 2026.
· It proposes to amend Sec42(1) of the VAT Act by deleting the words "registered person" & substituting with the word "person".
Why does this matter?
· Presently, issuance of an invoice that accounts for VAT is restricted to registered persons per Sec34(1) of the VAT Act (i.e. annual turnover > Kes 5.0 Million)
· If the word "registered" is being deleted & we remain with "persons" only, the import here is that issuance of invoices accounting for VAT will cease being anchored on the fact that one's annual threshold ought to be in excess of Kes 5.0 Million & will be opened to all
Questions:
· The drafting of this proposal is not clear to me, will those who don't factor in VAT still be required to account for it?
· If this amendment sails through, will there be any point in having it co-exist with Sec34(1) of the VAT Act prescribing the Kes 5.0 Million turnover threshold for VAT registration?
· Won't this proposal complicate compliance unnecessarily for small taxpayers?
See quoted tweet for a story I did at the end of March along these lines.

“The World Health Summit Regional Meeting in Nairobi reflects the growing importance of Africa in shaping the global health agenda.” — Axel Radlach Pries, president, World Health Summit.
That message defined the spirit of the @WorldHealthSmt Regional Meeting 2026.
