@RawiriTaonui It seems to work using both. NZ internationally and Aotearoa more locally. I think Able Tasman naming the land rather than James Cook means there’s less baggage to NZ. It’s not like Zimbabwe who really needed to change from Rhodesia.
@jordanbpeterson It is if you’ve been persecuted for that orientation. Any aspect of ourselves that has been used against us becomes a strong part of our identity. Ideally being female, gay, black, Palestinian, Jewish etc…shouldn’t be a strong identity driver. But for good reason, it is.
