The need to critique everything because it doesn't align with your emphasis, theology or perspective is a sign of immaturity. I cannot make the boundaries of my opinion the boundaries of the kingdom.
If you go through life too busy or indifferent to ask hard questions about why you believe as you do will find yourself defenseless against the experience of tragedy or the probing questions of skeptics. Don't just believe something because others you like do too. Do the work.
No one “wins” in #culturewar mindset - because in order to “win” we demonize “the other”, and thereby poison the very soil of culture we stand on. #culturecare tends to that soil by cultivating &, at the same time, to do the hard work of removing the hardened rocks of injustice.
Had a long call with a friend yesterday about “platform” and ministry. A few things came out of that call felt worth sharing:
1. Ministry isn’t supposed to be a platform. Pastoring isn’t a platform. It’s serving. It’s shepherding a specific group of people. It’s foot-washing.
@evanduncan So true. Right now my wife and I are wrestling again, after 9 years of infertility and then a miscarriage two weeks ago. Reminding ourselves he has met us here and is patient and compassion towards us as we wrestle with him and what happened.
There’s a world of difference between being a pastor versus being a content creator who has the title of pastor.
Pastoring entails proximity to people.
