Holy smokes -- 50% cut in DynamoDB On-Demand pricing 🔥. That's huge news for almost everyone using Dynamo.

On-Demand used to be ~7x more expensive than fully-utilized provisioned throughput. Which seems high, until you realize you're not even close to fully utilized. A ton of DDB customers would or did save money (+ headache) by moving to On-Demand.

Now you need to be getting >30% utilization with provisioned throughput to beat on-demand. Not impossible but fairly tricky. Plus basically no operational overhead w/ on-demand.

Huge win. BRB going to update all my spreadsheets.

#reinvent #reinvent2020 The biggest data announcement IMHO is Glue Elastic Views. Builds materialized views to build virtualized table for data that can be copied form source to target data store. A long-awaited first step for AWS to build synergy across its myriad databases.

@dynamodb @bracegirdle_me @houlihan_rick @awscloud One of the key design tenets for DynamoDB is consistent fast performance at any scale. We’ll continue to add more powerful functionality based on customer feedback, but not where it’s in conflict with that core tenet.

1. Use Kinesis as the mechanism for your DynamoDB streams. Huge win. One of my top 3 requests. DynamoDB Streams consumer limit was a bummer, and this helps a ton.
