What are the health risks to Laredoans?

The excess cancer risks for nearby residents is at least 1 in 10,000.

Despite living in close proximity to the most toxic industrial pollution plant in the country, Laredo residents were never engaged with.

Meanwhile, EPA held regional meetings and engaged with whiter and more affluent communities.

Low-income, latino communities deserve better.

Why does Laredo bear particular significance in this list?

The commercial sterilization plant in Laredo is 'the most toxic facility of its kind in the country', according to recent analysis by ProPublica and the Texas Tribune.

On August 3, 2022, the EPA identified 23 communities where local air pollution from corporate sterilization plants has meaningful induced their lifetime cancer risks through their use of ethylene oxide. Laredo, Texas was one of them.
