60% of women with depression suffer significant premenstrual exacerbation (#PME) of symptoms, and we have no evidence-based treatments for this cyclical change that complicates treatment. Our lab studies the complex biologies of #PME & #PMDD! #PMDDAwarenessMonth#pmddpeeps
Reposting this amazing magic from @esylarur in honor of #PMDDAwarenessMonth#pmdd#pme#PMDDpeeps — I also LOVE that she is shining an equal light on #PME— it’s much more common than PMDD and we don’t have any evidence-based treatments yet. (We at @clear_lab is working on that!)
Late to the party - I WILL be reviewing applications for clinical PhD students this cycle. 👍💎
Apply to work with me @universityofky - the lab is working on developing/refining modules to address domains of the five-factor model of personality.
Little 🧵
My clinical psychology internship/residency pays me $36,000/year at a full-time position in Seattle, where the cost of living is wild.
This equals $17/hour 🙃. Post-docs make $55k/yr
With these salaries after 6+ yrs of training, no wonder there's a MH provider shortage.
@CheriLev I think it’s a good idea to state in the manuscript that this was the preferred term for this patient! That’s really useful for people to know.
McKay et al. (2006) found that which psychiatrist you got was a better predictor of outcome than whether you got imipramine or placebo.
Psych1 got better results with placebo than 7 of the 9 others got with imipramine
Psych8 & Psych9’s patients got worse no matter what.
I get emails quite often these days asking questions about the best ways to measure psychological states in EMA research. I don't think I'm an authority on this, but worked very hard on this over the last few years so I thought I'll share my own thoughts on this. 🧵
I’m incredibly proud of our new clinical practice paper emphasizing the dire need for greater access to GnRHa for #pmdd and providing practical materials to improve psychiatrist’s competence and confidence in the ability to provide this (often life-saving) therapy.
This #pmdawarenessmonth2022 I want to highlight the new research (from my own @clear_lab, @IAPMDglobal, and others!) showing staggeringly high lifetime rates of suicidal thoughts and attempts in those with PMDs.
New @clear_lab paper (collab w/ @IAPMDglobal): high lifetime rates of suicidal thoughts (72%) and attempts (34%) in a global sample (n=599) of patients w prospectively-diagnosed #pmdd. Threads and hype coming soon for #pmddawarenessmonth ♥️ https://t.co/xScX9BQoun
At IAPMD, we recognize that there are additional barriers faced by #transgender people who have #PMDD. If you're a trans person living with a #PMD (or you want to be a better ally) visit the link in our bio for info and resources.

Check out my co-I @alexfeuillet talk about @BiAffect, the kinematics app we are using in the @clear_lab to track psychomotor changes as they relate to #suicide risk in our clinical trials!
So excited to welcome my new clinical psych PhD student @hafsahtauseef!! She’s brilliant, passionate about women’s mental health, and shares my love of makeup— follow her! 🧠💄
Super proud of our new paper on the importance of avoiding theoretical overreach in evolutionary psychology when studying the menstrual cycle. Check it out! https://t.co/NxBKbD7NnB
Proud to be a coauthor on this paper looking at the role of premenstrual #pmdd#pme symptoms in the effectiveness of nicotine patches for smoking cessation. https://t.co/czBO8FSfOY
Join us in welcoming @hafsahtauseef to the lab! Hafsah comes to us from @UNCWomensMood where she worked with @SusanGirdler on the biology of #pmdd and #perimenopausal depression. As an incoming graduate student, Hafsah is interested in #PME of mental health disorders! 🧠🤗
Thrilled to announce that @hafsahtauseef will be joining my lab (@clear_lab) through the PhD program in Clinical Psychology at UIC! Excited to have her intelligence, creativity, and enthusiasm on our team! 🎉 https://t.co/jqavW34DBg
