Hulu ads are literally twice as long as any other streaming service I've seen (typically 2 minutes elsewhere but always getting 4 on Hulu) and tbh I'm half wondering if it's just a bug no one's fixed yet
But seriously why does Disney make it so hard for me to give them money? We're going to WDW next week and their reservation website regularly has broken redirects. Websites should not be mystical new computer science anymore. Can't think of another megacorp w so many UI/UX issues
Too much "build cool shit" culture and not enough self-reflection. This is what happens when engineering ignores diverse opinions and lacks accountability -- you end up with an app that has disabled screenshotting but like a million other super basic things don't work.
Sadly I'm not surprised. During my WDW visit every time an employee found out I was a SWE they had some horror story about our tech.
You can't build products without empathy for the users and for too many engineers (at least in Disney Streaming) the user is incidental.
Lots of reasons why I bailed on what could have been a dream job (hello I watch the most tv) but IME people really didn't even care if internal tools were correct and usable. If you can't build internal products people like it's hard to imagine you'll build good public ones.
Still weirdly processing the last 8 months but realized today that I couldn't even handle sticking around to "rest and vest" -- I literally walked on a 60k signing bonus to GTFO π± BUT my skills and my soul are worth way more than that to me anyway π
Was feeling pretty sad/nostalgic about my last day at Disney until I had to fill out the equipment return form which was horribly broken (while I was on the line with optimum who kept dropping me every time they put me on hold). I'm gonna go live under a rock brb
I'm the @BernieSanders of the office -- I show up to meetings I'm not wanted at knowing I won't be able to change too much but hoping I can at least move the needle.
