"Cut taxes, cut welfare, deport immigrants" is not an economic strategy. It does nothing to address the deeper issue: incomes across much of Britain have failed to keep pace with housing and living costs for decades. That's the problem that needs solving.
@RichardBurgon We saw what a success it was with the Tories changing leaders every few minutes. Much as I'm disappointed with the direction of Labour since they took power, we need some stability and the infighting isn't helping anyone!
Just got home after a hard days graft repairing venerable old windows.
So, as you do, I had a thought or two whilst peering into the delicately rippled hand made glass and running my hands over the pleasing woodwork to check for rot and other imperfections.
Water.
Yes, water.
Please bear with me on this.
The one thing that unites us as a country is the agreement that the Water Co’s have taken the piss over the years (or not taken it, if you get my drift)
Our streams, rivers, and seas are polluted to fuck because they are not doing their job, whilst charging us a fortune for the privilege!
Insulting, too, that they dish out millions to their shareholders in dividends and pay their executives colossal salaries for doing a shit job.
So here it is, a potential new policy for our wonderful yet beleaguered PM, Keir Starmer:
How about telling the WC’s that unless they clean up their act, literally, then we will take them back into public ownership with NO financial compensation whatsoever?
Moreover, criminal prosecution awaits the very worst of them with potential custodial sentences for the most negligent CEO’s.
That might focus their attention just a tad.
Certainly, it would be something that the entire country could rally around and would be a great vote winner too.
Quite brilliant, don’t you think?
Ha!

Has anybody asked why state pensions aren't sufficient to cover winter fuel bills in the first place, rendering winter fuel payments completely superfluous?
