"Captain Reece James has undergone successful minor knee surgery.

"The 26-year-old was absent from Saturday’s 5-1 victory over Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge while medical assessments took place following the injury suffered in training. Those assessments confirmed surgery would be the required course of action.

"Reece has already begun his road to recovery and will be supported by the club's medical department at Cobham during this rehabilitation phase.

"Everyone at Chelsea wishes Reece a speedy recovery and will support him on his road to return."

i’ve dealt with addiction and substance abuse for 10 years. here are 5 things i’ve learned.

1. just because everyone’s doing it doesn’t mean you should.

your boss does it. your colleagues hang out with him. the cool guy in college does it, so everyone wants to be around him.

you don’t have to be part of that. trust me, you’re missing out on nothing.

2. your brain will find ways to justify it.

you’ll go from “i smoke” to “i smoke less than everyone else.”

from “i drink” to “i drink less than my friends.”

you start feeling good about doing less harm, instead of asking why you’re doing it at all.

the benchmark becomes everyone else, not zero.

3. you can find your people elsewhere.

gyms, run clubs, CrossFit, HYROX. find something that brings people together without needing substances to make it fun.

you can build friendships, have a social life, and belong somewhere without any of this.

4. be careful who you surround yourself with.

if the people around you constantly normalize smoking, drinking, or other substances, it becomes much easier for you to do the same.

your environment matters more than you think.

5. the people you started with might not be there when you need to stop.

the people you smoked or drank with will eventually move on with their lives. you might be the one left dealing with the consequences.

make that choice carefully

you don’t have to ruin your health to fit in. and you don’t have to be part of every room you’re invited into
