It's going to be a hot 4th of July weekend.
While NYers celebrate, union crews will be working around the clock to keep homes and businesses powered.
Help reduce demand by raising your thermostat a few degrees and running major appliances later in the evening.
Thank you @NYCMayor & @NYCCouncil for allocating $2M for Heat Pumps for All! Heat pumps will help NYC households' lower costs while reducing pollution. This is a crucial step and we look forward to continuing this progress.
Thank you to @JimGennaro@JulieMenin@CMAlexaAviles@ChrisMarteNYC for rallying with us last month and working with @NYCMayor to secure $2 million in the budget for a heat pump program that will create union jobs and deliver affordability to NYC homeowners.
Extreme heat is dangerous, but heat illness is preventable. Every employer should do everything in their power to protect their workers from extreme heat. New York City also requires employers to provide Protected Time Off for heat-related illness and prohibits retaliation against workers for requesting it. Employers should provide access to water and shade, build in more time for breaks on the hottest days, and move strenuous work to cooler hours whenever possible. These simple steps can help ensure every worker makes it home safely.
Thank you @SpeakerMenin & to your whole team, the membership, and staff. To Council Members @JimGennaro, @LindaLeeforNYC, @alexaforcouncil, @ChrisMarteNYC for being champions for both working homeowners & fighting carbon emissions. CLC collaborated with @steamfitters638, @PeteSikora1@nychange, @foodandwater, @ClimateJobsNY, @NYPIRG, and together, created the context to put money in-the-pockets of working homeowners who are squeezed. We’re looking for ways to get money into-families-pockets to make lived reality better; that’s double for sandwiched, multi-generational Union households.
Today is #GlobalWindDay! Hear from Chris Sorensen of @CarpentersNyc Local 1556 on why offshore wind is one of the fastest and most cost-effective ways to generate power for New York, especially downstate where space is limited.
Extreme heat is coming, and union members work year-round to help keep @ConEdison’s grid reliable when New Yorkers need it most.
Prep for summer:
✔️Raise thermostats a few degrees
✔️Run appliances at night
✔️Use fans to reduce AC demand
