Apollo was a political project, not a normal science project. We didn't lose technology, but going to the moon with people required an industrial ecosystem. When political will vanished, so did the ecosystem and the whole expensive supply chain.

We have been back many times with robots, which makes more sense when doing it just for science, and is significantly cheaper.

I appreciate it's simpler for you to understand this as a giant conspiracy theory, rather than grok the nuances of what actually happened.
