A lot of NFL players could’ve been great soccer players…

But putting our NFL talent into our soccer team would probably not cause the United States dominate the World Cup.

The implication is that Americans have some otherworldly athletic traits the rest of the planet just doesn’t have.

The idea that ONLY America possesses the physical talents for NFL level success is absurd.

That doesn’t add up.

Firstly, the US population at the genetic level comes from the rest of the entire world.

And soccer organizations have brutal, global scale filtering for talent.

If elite NFL athleticism translated directly to elite soccer athleticism then that filter would’ve already found the guys that had NFL athletic traits in countries that don’t prioritize American football.

What’s way more likely is specific athletic outputs we see in NFL success just don’t transfer to soccer success the way Americans (who mostly grew up worshipping football and basketball as the athletic gold standard) assume they do.

This is my opinion coming from actually working across many different sports and the athletes within them.

Not from watching one or two of them on tv and playing JV football in high school.

Then what? Which manager can make these players better?

- We have strikers who can’t score
- We have defenders who can’t defend
- We have midfielders who can’t keep the ball longer than 3 seconds

With this level of technicality, physicality, squad depth and such a weird mix of profiles, what can another manager do?

Adapt and scrape some wins? Push for 5th or 6th? We could probably do that, but is this what we really want?

At some point, we have to stick to a manager regardless of EVERYTHING.

Arsenal were a laughing stock with Arteta for 3 seasons. Liverpool the same with Klopp. But patience is vital.

If not Amorim, another manager should have the ‘luxury’ of having no pressure for 2-3 seasons until things get fixed.

Like it or not, it’s the only way. It’s painful but it’s the only way to wake up a sleeping giant.
