Happy LGBTQ+ in STEM Day 🌈
Today we acknowledge and celebrate the important work and contributions of the LGBTQ+ community across all Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines.
Yesterday, CERN raised the Progress Pride flag as recognition of the diversity in our scientific community. #OnThisDay we reflect on all the ways we can make our community a better and a more inclusive place for everyone. #LGBTQSTEM 🏳️🌈

After months of preparations, today we will host one of our first public events of the 2023/2024 season. I hope to see you around at the #CERNScienceGateway. Join us on https://t.co/fbyos8KvfB .
A season of events for all 💫
The 2023/2024 season of public events at CERN Science Gateway is about to begin. This season, discover more about physics, CERN, the relation between art and science, and more.
The public events programme will aim to create engaging content and experiences, ranging from talks to films and dance or music performances.
You can book your place up to three weeks before the day of the event.

Here we see the art installation Chroma VII by Yunchul Kim, former artist in residence at CERN. This 15-metre-long kinetic structure consists of 324 individual cells that fold in on themselves in one complicated knot.
Inspired by the connections between space, energy, and matter, the installation reflects the fluxes in our Universe, producing an ever-changing spectacle that mirrors the dynamic nature of the cosmos.
The installation has been commissioned by @artsatcern for the exhibition ‘Exploring the Unknown’ at CERN Science Gateway.

A new, three-year pilot programme – announced during the 2023 #GESDASummit – will make #QuantumComputing resources and technical expertise available to projects designed to support the @UN’s #SDGs.
The Open Quantum Institute, hosted by CERN, was designed by @GESDAglobal, in collaboration with some 130 experts, and funded by @UBS as lead impact partner. The programme will be fully embedded into CERN’s wider Quantum Technology Initiative as of next year.

People who have turned to X for breaking news about the Israel-Hamas conflict are being hit with old videos, fake photos, and video game footage at a level researchers have never seen. https://t.co/AXh6XPU3w5
CERN Science Gateway opens today🎈
Here, you’ll find immersive exhibitions, hands-on educational activities, and the chance to engage with the discoveries, science, and technologies of CERN.
We’re excited to welcome you all.

What is the link between antimatter research and spectroscopy?
In this CERN-Solvay Education video, we build a very budget-friendly version of an instrument used to study light: a spectroscope. You can use it to break down the lights around you into their constituent colours and find out at which energy levels light is emitted.

Little steps, big plans
From 8 October 2023, CERN Science Gateway will open its doors to the public and welcome visitors from around the world.
From exhibitions, to labs and events hosted in the auditorium, the new science centre was envisioned from the start to provide something for everyone who is interested in science, CERN, architecture or learning.
Would you keep this LEGO-like version of CERN’s new science centre on your desk?

Work motivation throughout the years:
The 2000s - salary
The 2020s - sustainable and social engagement
The 2030s - it is all about the air conditioning working situation!
"Today AI is sometimes more accurate and empathic with responses for health. There is going to be a time when we might need to ask why didn't you use AI to be more ethical," Juan Lavista Ferres from Microsoft at @AIforGood. What do you think?

Today, CERN’s #PhotoOfTheWeek shows the ATLAS detector from various angles. The first picture was voted the favourite by you in last week’s ATLAS photo competition. One of the big four experiments in CERN’s accelerator complex, the @ATLASexperiment at CERN holds the largest volume particle detector ever constructed.
As #LHCRun3 continues, the ATLAS experiment has changed how it stores and processes "conditions data" – essential information describing every aspect of ATLAS during collisions in the #LHC.
