@tinsleysandy1 I'm with you - Virtual reality in the classroom is an exciting thought! I've been considering taking my research and ideas learned from our program to my administration. Maybe I could pilot a program in my classroom? #wuedt6020
@aklecha001 Great suggestion, Adrianna. Thanks! This makes complete sense - I spend a great amount of time during the first few months of school on classroom routines and procedures to ensure a smooth year. The same attention to procedures is needed for technology use. #wuedt6020
@aklecha001 Great point, Adrianna. I think teachers can address this concern by setting clear expectations, holding students accountable, and building off of "teaching moments" should this occur in the classroom. #wuedt6020
@lindsaygarb I use the Remind App to communicate with parents. I send class announcements, personal messages, and photos. One of my students, who especially thrives off of positive reinforcement, will send a message to his mom if he had a proud or successful moment. #wuedt6020
@BrettBaxter1971 I think when educators are aware of this concern, we can work to find a balance between integrating technology as well as providing opportunities for social interactions. We may also need to explicitly teach and model these social skills for our students today. #wuedt6020
@sharwash66 I love the idea of using Skype in the classroom! Students could collaborate with other classrooms, practice a foreign language, hold a debate, or listen to a story from a special guest. #wuedt6020
@tinsleysandy1 How lucky are we to have such immediate access on YouTube to any culture we are seeking to learn more about? We are even able to find the same topic presented in various ways to target both younger or older students. #wuedt6020
The Classroom Champions program connects students with Olympic athletes from around the world to act as a mentor. Students skype with an athlete to talk about goal-setting, leadership, and community involvement. #wuedt6020
@AJohnsonCape You make a great point - I think games for math skills practice and remediation is a smart move! Students tend to be highly engaged while playing, and game play helps develop additional skills (strategy, winning/loosing coping skills, teamwork, etc.) #wuedt6020
@HaroldlScottiii I agree! VR offers an entirely new way for students to connect with events of the past. I think this would make the learning experience much more meaningful. #wuedt6020
When the technology is available, I would love to adopt the emerging trend of virtual reality in my classroom. Using VR, such as for virtual field trips, would bring new opportunities for my students to help them grasp big concepts! #wuedt6020
