Has anyone yet written the complete history of how Pride went from a vibrant counterculture to a civil rights movement to a sort of unofficial corporate-sponsored state religion whose observance is subsidized by taxpayer dollars and sometimes compelled by law
To all of you New Yorkers, the New York Knicks are worth $10 billion dollars. If we dissolved the franchise we could use that money to end world hunger. Stop celebrating greed.
The reason there’s no modern day capote/vidal/warhol/baldwin is because post gay rights homosexuals were all shuffled into one broad category where they had to either play the clown or the hero. Now every bit of gay art falls into one of those two categories. It’s either a humiliation ritual about a sex addicted buffoon or an overcoming “oppression” narrative. Having to be secret to some extent, despite everyone knowing their proclivities, created a mystery around them that produced good art. Truman couldn’t turn to Babe Paley and offer her poppers while making some joke about anal sex at one of her dinner parties. He had to be more creative than that, wittier. A refinement was required, a bit of a game, like the geisha who is not quite a prostitute. Now it’s just bussy out, being called brave for showing hole online because you’re “living your authentic self,” and 1000 tweets a day about douching.
More than 70 pecent of the end-of-life lithium-ion batteries in the US flow through Redwood Materials to be recycled into their base elements. Redwood is now the largest Cobalt producer in the US, as a result.
We spent a day with Redwood's CEO JB Straubel to see the whole operation in action. https://t.co/IdadswB8Dl
In case you didn't think Utica was apocalyptic enough, today they're making the big neon sign for the city glow purple in honor of "Naloxone Awareness Day."
Nalaxone, also known as Nar-Can, is a drug that rapidly reverses an opioid overdose.
There will not be a "last summer". There will not be a "permanent underclass". There will not be "human extinction". There will not be "endless suffering".
We are going to make it. Not because it's easy, but because it's possible. Because we can. Because we care enough to try
This Saturday is a major trail work volunteering event. Kick off America 250 with some service to your country. Maybe you’re unhappy about how some trails near you look? Go fix them up. American Hiking Society has a big list, or your “Friends Of” group will be doing something.
Missing in this article about the California legislature moving closely to a “study on grizzly reintroduction” (which, let’s be honest, will ultimately greenlight grizzly reintroduction) is what groups are actively pushing for this? You guessed it! The NGOs!
Of course the Center for Biological Diversity, the number one group behind the worst predator policies in many Western states, are the key players here. They spoon fed state lawmakers a well-funded campaign in the lead up to SB 1305 while running advanced legal and communications campaigns to make you think this is a popular and grassroots idea from tribes, scientists, and democratically elected lawmakers. Sierra Club is also in there, as is a group of activist professors and tribal leaders called the “California Grizzly Alliance” who settled on a number of grizzlies they say California can handle: 1200. This number is higher than Yellowstone grizzly population targets in a state with 10x the human density with much more habitat fragmentation, development, and ag than Yellowstone. It’s a fantasy.
Funding for this whole mess is coming from Leo DiCaprio, Patagonia’s nonprofit Holdfast, and the CBD as always has funds coming from the private foundations like Wilburforce and the Sandler Foundation.
In the NGOs’ campaign materials, they’re really emphasizing that the TRIBES are the ones who want this and will benefit from this to run cover for the fact that a bunch of NGOs funded by opaque private foundations are hoping to set large predators free, likely with very limited space for lethal management in the event that one of these grizzlies eats you or your dog.
The only voice of reason in this article is the Grizzly Bear Recovery Coordinator for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service who tells readers that this is a very technical and difficult process, well beyond the capacity of the NGOs pushing for it who are effectively an army of lawyers and marketing girls.
When Colorado let the NGOs set predator policy, a majority of released wolves died or were relocated to captive facilities. Likewise, notice the agency isn’t allowed to comment. This is another big flaw in American wildlife policy, agencies are typically forbidden to be political, so the people who know the most about the real costs, efforts, risk, and science are effectively not allowed to give any public communication about the decision. This vacuum is then filled with NGOs. City people will fall for the NGO campaigns, force this on rural people, and the agency will need to follow the direction of their legislature without any opportunity to provide their scientific expertise. These NGOs and their foundations are the worst thing to happen to American wildlife policy this century.
Took a break from developing useful apps for my day job and gave you guys an interactive map for refugee/UAC resettlement orgs.
Enjoy! Find out who’s operating in YOUR communities!
@TRHLofficial@martianwyrdlord That, and the posting it on twitter, where it was CERTAIN to generate outrage.
Frankly, the performance aspect is more offensive.
