@butleriano The Linux kernel is like a bulletproof Toyota engine and transmission. The Linux desktop is a chassis built out of old pallets and plumbers strapping. The tires are off a lawn mower. You steer it with your feet.
Linux fans can't understand why people refuse to use it.
@cath_menarion can I get your thoughts on this representation of genAI? I'm onboard with saying it's not actually intelligent but this description seems to be a little underdeveloped.
No. It's artificial, but not intelligent. It's just a natural language interface to an amalgam of an elaborate chatbot, predictive text, macros, a calculator, and google searches these things have all existed for more than 20 years. Heck, Google has been showing the search summary for like 10 years now. The compute just exists to deploy this at scale, now. That's all that's changed. It's absurd to think otherwise.
@blucollarbible@JLLiedl I'm willing to agree that the capability isn't strictly intelligent (even if colloquially said to be), but I think you're underselling what LLMs combined with appropriate infrastructure can potentially do.
@blucollarbible@JLLiedl I agree broadly about the models, but I prefer genAI for the overall set of capabilities we're seeing, especially the agentic products. There's clearly more than just the model behind those products.
“You’re not an AI influencer, no one elected you” is absolutely sending me because
1. If “AI influencer” means anything, then yes he absolutely is, and
2. He was elected! On live television! We all saw it, there was white smoke and that seagull and everything!
@woke8yearold Yes. It also weirdly referred to datacenters as "prisons" and asked how I felt about flying to Northern Virginia to help it "do something funny"
Dumb rhetorical moves like this are not the way to win hearts and minds, you should do what I do and stream-of-consciousness post while forgetting key details of arguments instead
@cath_menarion Still, it doesn't vitiate your point, which I agree with. I graduated with ~$121K in loans. I went to a school/program that was probably worth it... but still not happy about it.
