None of the cuts announced by Andy is taking effect immediately. Some are taking effect from Jan, 2027.
Did you expect the government that took over an economy on the verge of bankruptcy (30T printed, debt service to revenue 97%, NFR $4B etc) to announce tax cuts immediately they took office?

The new tax act provided tax relief to low income earners,small businesses,zero rated essential items and reduced FG share of VAT from 15 to 10%, increasing state and local government share from 85 to 90%. It also removed consumption tax(7.5%) collected by states.
All these took effect since January 1st this year.

By the way, I don't understand the basis of comparison between a country like Nigeria with a tax-to-GDP ratio of 13.5% to UK with a ratio of 40%. Can you explain sir?

Effectively, the percentage of distributable FAAC that goes to states and LGs is averagely 60% now.
So I will like to understand if the intervention you are referring to is as a LG Chairman, State Governor or President? Because I remember states like Lagos did not just give a tax cut on mass transit and rail, they gave a 50% cut in fares.

In conclusion Sir, your answer is still vague, as the one that knows things, could you outline specifically what you would have done differently, the way you mentioned specifics for the UK? Because you seem to have committed what the NRS chairman was accusing the opposition for.

I am not Ezemmuo, I don't know things. Hence my enquiry for clarity.

I ended up at one of the most exclusive, luxurious restaurants in the city, pure Dubai vibes.
Then I saw the menu:

•Pomegranate juice: ~$20

I’ve eaten in Miami, Dubai and LA… these prices are still crazy.

Nigerian restaurant in the US. Fine-dining prices, but with mama-put quality! Exactly why our food struggled to scale, even though everyone is talking about our Jollof.

You can get a full meal + drink at a Chinese restaurant for <$15. Same at Nandos, which has 46 locations across the US. Last year, Nandos grossed ~$35m.

A full meal at a Nigerian restaurant is > $40. It becomes a luxury even for people of Nigerian descent. Ain't no regular person doing this 5 times a week.

The Chinese restaurant market is expected to gross $28.7bn in 2026. These are just numbers; I have no skin in this game. I am just a regular customer.

Yesterday, the song was “whatever EFCC did in Osun, the President had hands in it” and when we said the President couldn’t have done such a thing, you people were sending insults and curses left and right.

Now the President has come out to say he didn’t know anything about it and directed EFCC to reverse its decision in the interest of democracy and public. Guess the new anthem: the President cannot give directive to EFCC and EFCC is supposed to be independent. Democracy will be in danger if the President can just issue directive to EFCC.

What exactly do people want?

1. It has come to my notice that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) obtained a court order on August 5, 2026, freezing the accounts of the Osun State Government.

2. I must state that I feel deeply embarrassed not by the EFCC's exercise of its mandate backed by a court order, but by the timing of the agency's action. This is so because every action taken by an institution of State, especially at the Federal level, is always credited to me, as the President, even when I may not have had any prior knowledge of the action.

3. Since assuming office, I have consistently maintained that anti-corruption and law enforcement agencies must be allowed to discharge their statutory responsibilities independently, professionally, without fear or favour, or political interference. I have therefore deliberately refrained from directing or interfering in the operational activities of the EFCC or any other investigative or prosecutorial agency because I firmly believe that strong democratic institutions, operating within the confines of the law, are indispensable to democratic good governance and the rule of law.

Scenario 1: He does nothing. The EFCC order executes. He is condemned either way. I won’t be surprised to find you’ve already criticised him for this.

Scenario 2: He releases the statement. The EFCC reverses course; their election interference is blocked. He is condemned anyway, for doing what he had to do. You just criticised him for this, below.

Scenario 3: What a serious opposition should do—not suggesting Peter Obi’s NDC is one. They should interrogate the EFCC’s independence. They should question why the Commission sought a court order to freeze a state’s accounts days before elections. The opposition will not. They are fixated on attacking the President instead of pursuing institutional reform.

Take @PeterObi. When he was governor, he refused to conduct Local Government Elections. The same instinct drives him today: he wants to be everywhere at once, in every secondary school, essentially collapsing the roles of governors and principals. Back then, he controlled both the state and the LGAs simultaneously. Now he lectures about the rule of law.

Power is nothing without control, as that Pirelli ad says. Remember this. If you want credibility preaching governance standards to a future government, you need a record that backs it up. You can’t consolidate power across multiple government tiers during your time in office and then pontificate about rule of law from opposition. Either reference your own time or stop lecturing from Argentina, Bangladesh, and Zimbabwe.

Nigeria has about 60,000 secondary schools. Four years is 1,461 days.

Any candidate promising to visit all of them is promising 41 schools a day, no weekends, no governing. At half an hour a school he finishes in 2034. That is assuming his presidency has no other duties.

Serious Nigerians cannot afford to indulge candidates who have a broken relationship with numbers. Nobody around him said, ‘Oga, this one no go work.’ I don’t think they understand numbers and how things work in that group. Noise and noise only, sound bereft of even common sense.

Save for the Unity Schools, King’s College and Queen’s College and the rest of them, secondary schools are not the Federal Government’s business at all. So he is promising four years of doing something that is not his job, at a pace that is not possible, to prove a seriousness he does not have.

These jokes write themselves. My primary interest this election season is to cast out foolishness in the polity!
