"To be an American is, unquestionably, to be the noblest, grandest, the proudest mammal that ever hoofed the verdure of God's green footstool."-Mencken
Instead of asking which great historical figures you'd like to have dinner with, ask which great historical figures would want to have dinner with YOU?
(None. The answer is none.)
The number one issue we have to resolve is this viral tendency to overreact to everything. The drama-disease is drowning everything else out. Thereโs no room for nuance or understanding so long as everyoneโs finger is twitching on the emotional response trigger at all times.
You might not realize it consciously, but youโre being conditioned here on social media, and by the news and culture too. The ebb and flow and the hyperbolic polarity of every single stupid story is making you quicker to jump at every piece of bait you see. Youโre being programmed to lead with your knee jerk reaction, because itโs always going to betray you, and that makes you easier to manipulate.
Take a deep breath and think for yourself. Remember how you used to wait a few days before you made a decision or passed judgment on something? Before the internet? Before smartphones? Youโre doing it in microseconds now. Youโre not sleeping on it, taking it with you on a walk, swishing it around, or digesting it anymore.
So if youโre tired of being yanked around by your heartstrings all day every day, then you know Iโm right. Youโve been kidnapped from your old life, so do yourself a favor and stop believing everything the kidnappers say. Use your head. Remember the real you.
