I call it Spilled Milk Syndrome.

The people who suffer from it live difficult, stressful lives, no matter how well things may otherwise be going for them.

They freak out when their iPhone screen cracks. Their flight gets delayed an hour, and it makes them crazy.

Their uber driver cancels last minute, and they yell at their screen. Their printer runs out of paper when they’re running late and need that important document - and their heart races like crazy.

Their blood boils when their latte’s too hot. Or their new shoes get stained the first time they wear them. Or the babysitter’s running 10 minutes behind.

Life’s little annoying moments shock them every time. They are the spilled milk moments that fill all of our lives - and they’re routine no matter who you are or even how wealthy you may be.

The people who expect these moments and take them in stride have an incredible gift.

When a business deal falls apart, they try to save it - and they move on to the next when they realize they can’t.

When the baby starts crying again at 3am, they can choose to be frustrated and to feel sorry for themselves because they had a long day and need the sleep - or they can choose to not to let it get them down.

How you handle those countless moments is simply up to you.

They are going to keep happening no matter what - and you can choose to take them in stride, not let them set you back, and to look forward.

Or you can choose to waste much of your life angry and frustrated, “crying over spilled milk.”

It’s perhaps the most important life choice you can make.

Average public university tuition went from about $7,000 to $12,000. Up 71%. Health insurance premiums for a family of four went from $13,000 to over $24,000. Up 85%.

Every price in the economy moved. The federal minimum wage of $7.25 was set on July 24, 2009. It has not changed once in 6,088 days. $7.25 in 2009 had the purchasing power of $10.47 today. That’s a 30% silent pay cut delivered one year at a time, while the number on the check never moved.

In 2009, $7.25 bought two Auntie Anne’s pretzels. In 2026, it doesn’t buy one.

The dollar lost 30% of its value. The pretzel adjusted. The wage didn’t.

Here is what’s really going on with regard to the funding stalemate in Congress.

ICE agents shot and killed two U.S. citizens on the streets of Minneapolis.

Democrats then said: before we write you another check, agree to the same rules every police department in America already follows. Judicial warrants before entering homes. Visible ID. Body cameras. No raids at schools and hospitals.

We immediately pushed for votes to fund TSA, the Coast Guard, and FEMA.

Republicans blocked it.

We tried to fund FEMA alone.

Republicans blocked that too. Their position was to fund ICE with no strings attached, or shut the whole thing down.

So DHS shut down.

Then yesterday, the White House sent a letter admitting we were right. But they still won’t agree to judicial warrants or to take the masks off, which means agents can still break down your door without a judge’s approval and you still can’t see their faces when they do it.

We’ve been ready to fund your airport security since day one, not to mention Coast Guard, FEMA and the rest. Republicans chose to protect ICE from accountability instead.

A Real ID drivers license is not an accepted ID under the SAVE Act — but is accepted to fly domestically.

Only Enhanced Real ID licenses are accepted under the SAVE Act, and they’re only issued in 5 states.

And it is working perfectly.

We used to bust monopolies in this country. Teddy Roosevelt made it a centerpiece of American democracy.

The idea was simple — concentrated power in the hands of a few is a threat to everyone else.

We don’t do that anymore.

Not because the monopolies got more virtuous. Because the monopolies got better at buying the people who would have stopped them.

This is not a left issue or a right issue. This is a math issue.

When 36 cents of every dollar in politics comes from a fraction of a fraction of the population — those are the only people getting served.

The rest of us are just paying for the system that ignores us.
