@ZJAyres I got diagnosed as an adult. Being able to put a name to the constant refrain in my head of “what is wrong with me?” when I can’t accomplish a simple task has been invaluable to my mental health. I hope this process goes smoothly for you!
You absolutely cannot be a good sabermetrician, a good stat analyst, if you believe too much in your stat conclusions. The whole point of sabermetrics is to find your way towards what you DON'T know. If you're certain that you already know it, then you're done. You're useless.
Some advice for the incoming grad students:
Visit the secretary of your department the 1st week you arrive. And then prioritize maintaining a good relationship with them.
Always take care of those who take of you. Especially in academia.
