It has to be imminent risk of deadly force level harm. If there is imminent risk that an unarmed person might punch you thst is (without special circumstances) not deadly force. You could defend by punching back nymnot shooting.

The level of force to defend must match level of force threatened.

You can't defend against nondeadly force with deadly force. If you shoot an unarmed attacker you better have a good story why you believe toh were inndanger of being killed or grievously wounded.

That attacker did not have a weapon. The shooter also exited a place of safety (inside car) or he wouldn't have been in any danger at all.

I hope he has insurance because he is facing a spend all your money trying to avoid decades in prison

The patrons are unhinged. You would think this is happening in 2020 not 2026.
