@bendreyfuss@evil_architect This is basically 75% of DC discourse.
Just like everything is also a national security issue or critical to competition with China
@bnzchr Banal in the sense that it is no longer novel, maybe? But it is still hugely controversial and damaging, and lots of campaigning is done to limit gambling in those places
@nick_field90 You’re right, we should teach young men a sense of complete helplessness by convincing them that their lives are solely dictated by external factors outside of their control
Say what you want about the merits of Catholicism, but they definitely racked up a point on “maybe divine guidance is real” by selecting an American pope who studied mathematics just in time for the dawn of AI
In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.
This is the funniest thing he’s ever done, the man didn’t even doxx the GOP Senators who impeached him but the Sunshine Protection Act is grounds to go nuclear
idk I think the burden of proof (or, if you like, the burden of persuasion) lies with those who think a concatenation of many matrix multiplications produces consciousness
Kudos to Pope Leo. I am disturbed by how some of my fellow AI researchers keep trying to elevate the moral standing of checkpoints and harnesses. I hope the rest of us on Team Meatbag reject this movement and stay focused on solving real problems and helping actual humans.
Adding onto this: EAs who (rightfully) recognize that AI safety will take collective political action might want to consider the impact of arguing to the public that AI is conscious, or that their movement is the modern day Christianity.
I love you guys, but the poor public perception of EA by normies (FTX, Situational Awareness, polyamory, veganism, etc.) is unironically an existential risk factor.
@ARozenshtein Counterpoint: the Catholic Church has been scarring generations of children telling them that their pets don’t go to heaven. I don’t think they’ll have any trouble denying AI consciousness
Join us Oct 14 for a book talk w/ Francis Fukuyama, a leading public intellectual, known for his landmark, bestselling works of political philosophy and history. He'll discuss his new book with Tibita Kaneene, President of the NYC New Liberals. RSVP at link in reply:
Both can be true.
The Republicans caused a cost of living crisis with dumb policies and socialism is dumb and cringe.
That is why at @CNLiberalism we offer the alternative.
Democrats who believe in capitalism!
