1/ It was a pleasure discussing with you at @mbifl2025, @ShashiTharoor. I learned a lot. We didn’t disagree much, just made different points.
India and China owe it to each other and the next generation to settle differences and move forward.
An exciting weekend in Thiruvananthapuram spent mainly at @mbifl2025, where i addressed four events! The first was a lively discussion on BRICS with HongKong businessman and think-tanker Chandran Nair (@Cnomics ), author of the book I’m displaying in the last picture. We agreed on much about the world order until he began singing the praises of China and i disagreed, as a proud Indian! Chinese hegemony would be no better for us than US hegemony and arguably worse, given our painful experience of Chinese aggression and expansionism. When pressed, I suggested there were a few things China could do to begin to convince us they really wanted peaceful relations with India. The media listed them as my “Panchatantra”!:👇🏼
4/ While many Indians take pride in their democracy, the critical question is whether it can deliver on the basic rights and needs of its people.
I am looking forward to seeing the whole discussion uploaded soon so people can make their minds up.

This is my last thread for a while, and as promised, on the cost-of-living (COL)
Malaysia’s rising COL is solvable. It needs action on 3Ms:
- Macro (fiscal)
- Meso (firms)
- Micro (families)
But b4 anything, pls allow me 2 tell you abt Izwan, a 5-star rated @GrabMY driver...
How's the M'sian economy doing? Our World Bank take on headline macro:
1. M’sia’s 2022 growth among HIGHEST in E. Asia
2. Recovery BROAD-BASED
3. 2022 Govt revenue HIGHER vs 2021
4. Inflation coming DOWN
5. Un- and under- employment both going DOWN
All true headlines BUT...
Malaysia's 15th General Election is coming up.
In anticipation, GIFT has released a bold and fresh new manifesto on the nation's development.
If you're interested in a new narrative, read and share.

I was very pleased to see that @gideonrachman has featured Dismantling Global White Privilege, on his recommended reading list for ‘best new writing in politics’ in the @FinancialTimes.

Thus it has an even more important role to play in helping to deconstruct these systems for a fairer world. Therefore I commend @gideonrachman and @FT and hope others will take the bold move of engaging with the ideas in the book.
It is valuable to reflect occasionally on the people, places and events that have shaped one’s life and values, and I find myself looking to 2022 and beyond with excitement and some anxiety given the state of the world.
I recently had the pleasure of being interviewed by Kate Whitehead from @SCMPNews, in which I shared my personal background and the key decisions in my life that have led me to where I am today and the beliefs that I hold.

Although many today know me as someone who speaks and writes on issues of sustainability, development, and equality, some of the most important influences on me revolve around music, art, culture and sport. They have helped shape me in many ways.
