On this day in 1835, Mexico demanded the surrender of a cannon.
Texans said, “Come and Take It.”
Things escalated quickly.
Happy Battle of Gonzales Day, Texas. 🤠💥
Hallowed ground here at the Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville commemorating 25 years since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
This sacred land honors the Americans who fought back to prevent another, larger attack. The precise timing of the wreath layings marked the times of each attack in New York City, Arlington, Virginia, and Shanksville.
May we never forget the thousands of innocent lives we lost that day, and always remember the selfless actions of our first responders, volunteers, and military in the days after.
9/11 is hitting me harder than usual this year
It's not because I ever forgot, because I certainly didn't
I think it's because I'm acutely aware of how much things have changed since then
We are all remembering those we lost on 9/11, including one of my friends. That day remains vivid and painful for all who lived through it. It is also important to remember how this nation united, putting aside our divisions to once again become "out of many, one"...
Three people attempt to climb down from the 79th floor of the South Tower, emerging from window 79-351 and using a makeshift rope. But they slip and fall.
Firefighter Danny Suhr is struck by one of them, killing both people instantly.
These are the first people seen falling or jumping from the South Tower; at least 50 people have fallen or jumped from the North Tower.
@HaloCodex IMO, Master Chief is Achilles and the Arbiter is Odysseus. Homer wrote the best ending thousands of years ago. Modern writers just keep fumbling the ball. Although to be fair, Halo 3’s ending was perfect in hindsight sight.
The ‘19 Astros shit the bed, and they had no business doing so.
#1 team in baseball
Verlander/Cole/Greinke at the top of their starting rotation
The lineup was stacked top-to-bottom with absolute ball murderers
And they choked to a wild card team who got hot at the right time
Me, An Astros fan, leaving the golden era, knowing that the Astros have won two World Series titles, four AL pennants, and knowing that my team stole your favorite team’s signs

🧵84 years ago today, April 9, 1942, the largest surrender in U.S. military history took place on a jungle peninsula in the Philippines.
What happened next became one of the worst war crimes of WW2
This is the story of the Fall of Bataan. 👇
Welcome to the family!

The Day After Pearl Harbor
December 8, 1941- the strategically vital atoll of Wake Island came under attack by the Imperial Japanese Navy, marking the beginning of a fierce and desperate defense.
In the first few days, the outnumbered defenders managed to inflict significant damage on the invading fleet, even sinking several enemy warships and forcing the Japanese to regroup. For two weeks, a small but determined force of U.S. Marines, Sailors, and civilian contractors would fight against overwhelming odds, delaying the Japanese advance and inspiring a nation.
Wake Island was eventually recaptured by U.S. forces in 1945, and its defense continues to serve as a powerful symbol of American resilience and determination in the face of adversity during World War II.
