Yes, thank you! This truth is widely missed in reporting, debate and even policy - and frequently overlooked to reach incorrect conclusions, both inadvertently and deliberately.
The primary energy fallacy is the idea that all primary energy from fossil fuels must be replaced with an equivalent amount of clean energy.
BUT: This is not necessary because conversion losses do not need to be replaced. More than 2/3 of all primary energy is lost as waste heat.
I first heard @MLiebreich use this term which captures this phenomenon nicely I think.
