Two mining stories are trending in South Africa right now, and only one of them tells you the truth about this industry.

Story one: a chrome contractor from Rustenburg started with 38 workers in 2018. Seven years later he's running 2,500 people and moving 200,000 tonnes of ore a month for one of the majors.

Ordinary South Africans see the Volvo fleet, the growth numbers, and the tender questions swirling around him, and it feels massive. It feels like proof that anyone can break into mining and get rich fast.

Story two: while that story was trending, Gold Fields quietly banked around R95 billion in revenue for 2024. One company. One year. The industry those old houses sit inside made R865.8 billion in total mineral sales last year, up from R302 billion in 2010. It employs almost 470,000 people directly and feeds close to 1.9 million more through their wages.

That's the part nobody screenshots. The new player everyone's talking about is real, and the hustle is real. But next to mining houses that have compounded wealth for a century, it's still small change. Scale in mining isn't built in seven years. It's built in generations.

The loud story gets the attention. The quiet one gets the money.

I have noted with concern and disappointment the remarks you made recently on a podcast with Dr Ndlozi. You are a leader I have long held in high esteem throughout my years of activism in the African National Congress.

These comments seek to associate my name with alleged vote-buying activities during the ANC’s 54th National Conference in 2017.

Let me be unequivocal: I categorically deny any involvement in vote-buying, whether through phone calls, voice notes, or any other medium, during that conference or at any other time.

Furthermore, my voice and manner of speech are well known to many comrades, and any fair-minded person can clearly discern that the voice in question is not mine.

I am approaching you in a comradely manner to retract the statement, as it would pain me to take legal action against an ANC veteran with distinguished struggle credentials.

I believe our movement has internal mechanisms and a culture of comradely engagement that should be exhausted before legal routes are pursued. It is not in my nature to turn every political disagreement into a courtroom battle.

Nevertheless, I urge you, Comrade, to reconsider the allegations you have made.
I trust that you will do the honourable thing: publicly retract the statement and offer an apology, in the spirit of unity, discipline, and respect that our movement demands.

Let us conduct our organisational discourse with the dignity, honesty, and revolutionary discipline that our people expect of us.

Inside Kaizer Chiefs' Second-Half Tactical Dominance📝

Kaizer Chiefs produced a far more balanced and purposeful attacking display in the second half. There was greater tactical flexibility in their movement, improved intensity in and out of possession, and better decision-making in the final third.

The constant rotation of positions made it difficult for Kruger United to maintain their defensive shape, creating more space and allowing Chiefs to attack with greater fluency and control. A far more dynamic display in attack with Vilakazi mostly receiving inside that wide.

■ Chiefs showed patient but purposeful ball circulation, refusing to force attacks but moving the ball a bit quicker than usual. There were quick passing sequences, one-touch combinations and improved third-man movements which manipulated Kruger's defensive block, creating spaces to penetrate in the half-spaces and from both flanks. We made it difficult for them to break out and progress when we decided to press.

■ Ethan Chislett was the tactical heartbeat in the 10 role. He freely roamed across the final 3rd, creating overloads between the lines and dragging defenders out of position. His pressing was good, contributed directly to the sequences that led to both goals. His movement allowed both Baartman (LW) and Vilakazi (RW) to invert into central pockets without sacrificing width.

■ The chemistry between Chislett, Baartman and Vilakazi created constant positional rotations that made Chiefs unpredictable. As Kruger narrowed to protect central spaces, Monyane and Frosler aggressively attacked the wide channels, stretching the defensive block while remaining tactically disciplined after offensive actions. You'll see Frosler moving into a more inverted role when Monyane pushes to cross and vice versa.

■ Despite committing numbers forward, Chiefs remained structurally balanced. I was impressed with the aggressive counter-press which saw the team recover possession very quickly, preventing Kruger from transitioning and also it allowed us to sustain relentless attacking momentum. The goals came from continued attacking momentum, and good ball circulation.

■ The team built attacking moments on controlled possession, repeated ball circulation and well balanced off-the-ball movement rather than individual brilliance. Every ball recovery immediately initiated another attacking phase, pinning Kruger United deep until the pressure eventually produced the goals that sealed the victory.

This team delivered an impressive performance despite being without key talents like Asanele Velebayi, Mduduzi Shabalala, and new signing Langelihle Phili.

■ The depth, structure, and quality on display should give Kaizer Chiefs supporters plenty of encouragement.

On 29 July 2026 I went to collect. I opened the package at the counter WITH TotalSports staff as witnesses.
The box was tampered, damaged, and EMPTY.
There was no iPhone inside. please note that on the pictures the blue plastic was sealed.
I took photos as proof in store.
the staff contacted Bash immediately, they told the staff they will communicate with me through email. I attached what they were saying They refused a refund, replacement, or any help.
I am now R19,999 down with nothing to show for it.
I have reported Bash to the National Consumer Commission @NCC_SA and I am opening a SAPS case for fraud.
