🚨BREAKING: 3 White Male #Virginia Senators, including Va. Majority Leader @ssurovell w/ buddies @SenDaveMarsden (who took a walk) & @JeremyMcPike just voted dead a #civilrights bill that would help end discrimination in the workplace, going back to the old colonial “Virginia Way”! This was very simply a “Know Your Rights Bill” that forced employers to educate their workers to how many days they had to file a complaint with the AG’s Office, Local Fair Employment Practices Agency/Human Rights Office, or EEOC as we know Human Resources departments look out for the company and not the employee, consistently brushing away discrimination complaints, including those of #sexualharassment kept hidden under the proverbial rug. Interestingly, this is a bill they all voted FOR 3x previously when carried by @KrizekForVA @guzman4virginia @Henson4Virginia. In 2024 it passed and was vetoed by @GlennYoungkin.

➡️ The very decent message this bill brought was only: “No individual’s Civil Rights will be violated, abused, unknown, or hidden from view by any entity more powerful.”

Think of everything #Trump
is doing to collude with big business. He’s practically dismantled the #EEOC and has halted their data collection on these matters.

Of all the guys in the world, I cannot believe they KILLED this overwhelmingly supported Va. House bill.

P.S. *2/End Citizens United - Corporations are NOT people and we desperately need campaign finance reform.
*3/Constitutional recognition of the #ERANow - the Equal Rights Amendment will finally lift women from second class status to strict scrutiny in the law, a critical step to change the cultural misogyny forcing women to suffer #sexualassault #sexualharassment, often in silence — both parties and corps are complicit because weak law and weak “leadership” permits it. #Trump is the one who prevented its publication following VA’s 38th ratification in 2020.

It is all truly about leveling the playing field, creating balance, and the peoples’ voice!

Ari Wilkenfeld, who represents Sales, told @Law360 that the country's civil rights laws were built to protect those who oppose discrimination. "Lisa Sales should be commended for standing up and opposing #genderdiscrimination and #violenceagainstwomen, but instead Booz Allen Hamilton fired her for it," Wilkenfeld said. "Lisa looks forward to being vindicated in a court of law, and will continue to help other #survivors so they won't have to suffer in silence."

"She won multiple awards at the firm and received positive feedback about her work," Sales said. But after she was interviewed by a journalist about a #sexualassault she experienced in 2011, things went south.

In May 2021, @YahooNews published an article detailing Sales' conflict with a man to whom she rented a room out of her house. She said in the article that she suspected the man's father was a Russian @CIA spy who passed information to the government for years before relocating to the United States. Sales recounted the man sexually and physically assaulted her...and went on to criticize the #CIA for possibly harboring criminals through its spy resettlement program.

A few months after the article was published, she was fired from #BoozAllen after she was "ambushed" with questions about the piece in a meeting with human resources. Ms. Sales said Booz Allen terminated her for sharing her sexual assault publicly, #retaliation that was also informed by her previous complaints about #gender #inequality at the firm.

In 2016, she said she reviewed documents which showed that men at Booz Allen who worked in the firm's defense and intelligence group were often paid more than women who were doing the same jobs with equal experience. When she joined a new, all-male team in 2017, Sales said she overheard sexist comments and that her male colleagues referred to her as "#BoobsAllen" while subjecting her to other forms of #harassment.

In May 2017, Sales said she filed a formal complaint with the firm about the conduct she experienced on the team. But when she followed up on the report with human resources, she was told her concerns had "fell through the cracks," according to the suit. Sales said she was later told her claims were not substantiated."

Wilkenfeld represented the #victim in the Matt Lauer case.
