Winning cultures hold everyone accountable. Each detail is held to a high standard. That’s why our motto is “Rise to the Standard.” It’s a high standard that doesn’t lower for anyone. No one is above the program.
The behaviors you don’t allow are just as important as the behaviors you allow. You can’t be afraid of confrontation. You can’t be afraid to hold others to the high standard. You can’t be afraid to make people uncomfortable.
“We don’t do that here” is a simple phrase that sets that high standard. It separates the great programs from average ones. Remind yourself, and others, “we don’t do that here” when something falls below the standard. That’s how you build a winning culture. It takes intentionality and it takes everyone.
Build the culture and protect the culture, no matter what, at all costs.
Our Jaguar Family has heavy hearts this morning. We lost Coach Dean Taylor, a great teacher, coach, friend, mentor. Coach was our weights teacher & DB coach from 2007-2024, when he retired. He will be deeply missed; he impacted thousands of kids. Condolences to the Taylor’s! 🙏🏻
“Think about growing up with your parents and you got to do whatever the hell you wanted to do instead of them telling you things.
Would you be sitting here?
I know I wouldn’t."
What you want isn’t always what is right for you.
Let the right people keep you accountable.
“There’s something about an athlete that you have to believe that you’re better than you are. You have to. But, the great ones can also look really honestly with themselves and go you know what? I’m afraid. I need to get better at this. I need to get better at that,” Dave Roberts
Your legacy isn’t what you achieved, but what you left behind. What you’re remembered for matters. How you treat people, the lessons you taught, the values you instilled. Those are the things worth being remembered for. Eventually champions are forgotten, trophies collect dust, records are broken and memories fade.
Winning beyond the game is the biggest thing. It’s bigger than you. It’s about others and the impact you had in their lives and in generations.
People won’t always remember what you said, but they’ll remember how you made them feel.
Always remember people are more important than a task. That’s servant leadership. That’s a legacy worth leaving.
Jerome Bettis shares the 4 things that get you to greatness.
1. Sacrifice - "You've got to have the ability to sacrifice, and a lot of times that means sacrificing the relationships that mean the most to you."
Greatness costs something. Are you willing to pay the price?
2. Pain - "You're going to have to endure some type of pain in your life, whether physical or mental. You've got to find a way to endure."
Pain is part of the process. You don't avoid it - you push through it.
3. Failure - "You've got to have the ability to understand that you're going to fail, but it's how you recover that makes you a better person."
Failure isn't the end. It's the teacher.
4. Love - "If you love it, then it's not a job - it's a passion. If you love it, you're willing to sacrifice for it, you're willing to go through all type of pains for it. You're willing to go through that failure and understand, 'I will be successful.'"
Love is what makes the sacrifice, pain, and failure worth it.
"If you go through those 4 things and you understand those and you can handle those then success is in your path, and greatness is available to you."
Greatness requires you to show up and take action consistently.
