It’s hard to believe that it’s been 10 years since my accident. Last night I really started to reflect on everything. So much so that I thought it would be smart to get these thoughts on to paper. Here’s what I got. https://t.co/dCgeJTrt5U

My 13 year old daughter has talked for several years about how much she loved her 5th grade teacher. I asked her what she liked about her. Her response: “She liked US!” So simple… yet so profound. Kids gravitate to the teachers that like them. They can tell.
Most great teachers didn’t start out that way! But...
1) They reflected on what worked and what didn’t.
2) They learned from their colleagues.
3) They always kept their focus on the students.
EVERY teacher can be a better teacher!
Over the last 2 years, .@toddcivin1 and I have written a book about my life and journey over the last 8 years. It is something I am very proud of and now you have the chance to order it! You have 60 days if you want it by the holidays! https://t.co/KVm1gXRd7A

We need to be intentional about building relationship with students, but we also need to be intentional about building relationships with colleagues.
Go out of your way to say hi, to give a compliment, and to get to know the people at your school.

-To be pushed
-Affirmation
-Reminders about the small things
-A teacher that cares about them

Reaching apathetic students means actually paying attention to said students and researching their lives. Not in a creepy way of course, but actually caring why they're choosing to disengage.
