I preach this to every team that I coach. Why? Above winning, it’s to help kids become the best versions of themselves on and off the court. But this attitude also leads to wins and championships. Don’t believe me? See UCONNs banners.
Thank you, Geno #goat
Geno Auriemma said, "Your contribution doesn’t have to be 25 points. But it has to be something."
"Your number one contribution is the energy you bring."
You don’t have to score to make an impact.
Great teammates bring energy, effort, and attitude.

COACHING HARD
A lot of comments on recent videos asked what it means to coach players hard. I think the initial reaction to that we think of a Coach screaming and yelling.
I don’t really consider that ‘Coaching Hard’. Coaching hard to me means you are fully invested in the player, want them to succeed, have had conversations with them about it, laid out the standards and expectations for them, then YOU HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE TO THAT.
The coaching hard part takes different shapes and forms, it’s not always yelling… but the accountability and care has to be strict, that’s what makes it seem hard to the player
Last is @MCPSAthletics North Division 1st team led by couple Hornets & Rams. @DHSGirls_Hoops was led by SRs Madison Slayton & Juliet Ventura & @ms_g_gregg’s Rockville team was led by SR Taniyah Feist & SO Maura Hansen. @WMRinesSports SR Sharick Mejias is on 1st team. #MoCoGBB
"If it were just about talent, recruiting would be easy.
Talent gets me in the gym to see them, but it's all the other things.
For me, are they unselfish?
Are they a great teammate?
Do they understand that it's not about them?"
Talent gets you noticed-character gets you recruited
Down 2 starters. On the road against perennial powerhouse at their place. Backs against the wall and this team found a way to win. It took all the heart and grit that these girls had and I couldn’t be more proud to be part of this program. 🐝🏀
Damascus holds off a fourth quarter comeback by Whitman to come away with a tight one point win. A great battle against two of the top teams in Montgomery County.
What a win. A lot to digest with this one. Intense coaching, intense environment. Clinched the 1 seed in our region with the win. The challenge for everyone tonight was to play and coach like we hate to lose.
Tough. Disciplined. United
Congrats to @madison25s. 17 pts and 15 reb to lead us to an upset win. And with those 15 rebounds, she now has 1005 career boards. Quite a career for Madison, 1000 pt scorer, 1000 rebounds, and multiple player of the year awards. She played liked she hates to lose last night 🐝🏀
Best way to get out of a slump is to have a “next one is in” mentality and that’s exactly what this chica has! Proud of her, super cool moment to watch her bury these. Keep shooting, C! 🐝🏀
Great shooting night for our sharp shooting junior C.C. 4-6 from 3, helped us build a lead to start the game and then buried one to start overtime to help us get the big win 🐝🏀
BAD BODY LANGUAGE SCREAMS!!
These clips from Auburns game last week stood out to me as a way to teach our players what it looks like when you have bad body language.
As a development coach, I hope this young player learns from it, we all make mistakes as freshman in college… but it’s a great chance for others to see it and learn from it before they choose to do it.
Basketball is a team sport. We don’t do a great job in the AAU world and in today’s game of stressing we over me. BASKETBALL IS A TEAM GAME!! YOU NEED TO BE ABLE TO BE PART OF A TEAM. And ultimately that means you’ll have to sacrifice individual success.
Choose to be a good teammate everyday and bring consistent positive energy and effort, and the universe will reward you!!
MAKE WINNING PLAYS!!
Games are won and lost on 50-50 balls, free throws, rebounding, and execution. More player need to see highlights of winning plays that they can make to help their team win down the stretch.
The other night Oweh from Kentucky made huge plays to seal the deal for his team. 50-50 ball, made free throws, and a HUGE effort rebound with 5 seconds left to control the game.
Make winning plays!
The outpouring of love has been amazing. Thank you all. Sanaa's family has set up a GoFundMe to help with funeral costs and other arrangements:

🔬HOW WE JUDGE OUR PLAYERS IN WORKOUTS…
Most players think if they make shots, they have a good training session or practice. To me that’s not even in the top 3. If Players come in and do these 3 things, we’ll have a really productive session..
1. Pace - Have a high work rate, move with intensity and purpose.
2. Bounce Back - How quickly do you bounce back when negative adversity hits… missing shots, losing a drill, getting scored on, etc.
3. Presence - If you come in the gym with positive energy, ready to work, communicating, etc.
Seems like a 3 of those are choices too 😉
How can players make a big jump next year?!?!
For High School and College players… they all put in work with their coaches. Most of them have a trainer they see to put in work.
So what is the separator?
1. Are you working on the right things with your coaches that are going to help you be a better player working your team and overall
2. HOW MUCH TIME DO YOU PUT IN THE GYM ON YOUR OWN. This is a HUGE SEPARATOR because this time isn’t dependent on anyone and is unlimited in how much you do.
Almost every player I’ve worked with that has made a BIG JUMP has put in extra time on their own. It’s not only because of the work, but it also helps players understand their game better and gives them a bigger investment in their development. As a player you should assess that part of your development today!
